Double click home button opens music app after 3.1.1 update, not good!

I just updated to iPod Software 3.1.1(Build 7C145) today and now the double clicking of the home button opens the music app, instead of bringing up the pop up window of music controls like before. I have checked the settings in Settings>General>Home and selected iPod with iPod controls toggled on.

How do I get it to come up with the popup window again?

And if its not possible, how do I revert back to the previous software without going off an old backup and removing all my data?

I find this new feature annoying also. What's most aggrivating is that if you're listening to music and want to use an app that turns off your music because it wants you to listen to the app (need for speed for example has a video that surprisingly includes sound). It used to be that after watching the video you could double tap the home button to get up the controls and continue listening. Now you can't. This is incredibly annoying as I like listening to music AND playing a game. It can't be too much to ask for them to change this back. Surely.

I agree (I've done it 4 times or so since 3.1.1 came out), and thanks for reiterating this point, Jeff. I'd go as far as saying to pass this onto any iPod touch or iPhone users. It takes about 15 seconds to do, and the more unique submissions that are sent about this issue, the better. Unfortunately, not enough people have complained about it, or else I feel it would have been fixed in 3.1.2. Now we can only hope it will be addressed in 3.1.3 or 3.2 or even by the time 4.0 rolls around. I'm not holding my breath though 😟

If you have Facebook, tell your friends to file a report on Facebook. If you have a blog, blog about it and ask your readers to talk about it. If you have Twitter, tweet out the link. Let it be publicly known outside the Apple discussion problems that this is a major issue that really should be rectified.

I've entered my complaint a couple of times. I was hoping this would be fixed with 3.1.2 but it wasn't. This is very debilitating to us first generation users. I'm wondering if this is apple's way of trying to get us to purchase the current generation with a volume rocker - forcing an upgrade. Please fix this apple since it makes games and several aspects of the ipod extremely frustrating and not that useful. I've found myself frequently not playing games now because I can't play and listen to podcasts at the same time. Not good for first gen users, game producers or the app store.

I'd love some clear instructions on how to revert to 3.0. Are they embedded in this LONG thread? I guess I'll have to comb through it.

I just sent another feedback form for this month. I'm really sick of this. It's not only frustrating that they broke the double-tap functionality, but that the iPod Touch and iPhone teams refuse to even comment or acknowledge our frustrations. They act like this is a free product or service and we should be happy with what we get, when everyone here paid a lot of good money for the device and even more for apps, music and movies to use on their iPhones and iPod Touches.

Please, if you haven't already, or haven't done so in over a week or two, send in a short, polite bit of feedback regarding this. They can only ignore an issue like this for so long.

I'm honestly surprised they've given us the cold shoulder for this long as it is.

*DOWNGRADE INSTRUCTIONS @ http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10186189#10186189*

I downgraded back to 3.0 a few hours after installing the 3.1.1 update, and I have no intention whatsoever to upgrade my current 2G, or even buy a next generation iPod Touch in the future until they bring back the "always accessible" iPod Pop-Up Controls.

I have been quietly reading this thread and now feel at home. 🙂 It is quite obvious that I'm not the only one who feels like Apple has robbed us 1G iPod Touch users blind. I'm another frequent user of the Double Tap Music Control. I absolutely loved that feature. I just upgraded to 3.1.2 and, like everyone else in this thread, was absolutely disappointed. I'm not one to take B.S., so I'm downloading the 3.0 firmware BACK onto my computer as I'm typing this.

I can promise you that by the end of the night, I'll be back to double tappin' my music on 3.0 firmware.

P.S. I've already filed a bug complaint and might just file another one using another e-mail. EVERYONE FILE A COMPLAINT!

Dam it I've just PAID money to 'upgrade' the software on my ipod touch and it *****!

Occasionally I actually want to listen to music on my ipod however the so called 'upgrade' makes it much harder!

Double tapping the home button used to bring up the ipod controls, even if no music was playing. However now it seems there is no way to quickly bring up the ipod controls unless some music is already playing.

For a device that is primarily intended as a music player this super annoying!

PLEASE FIX THIS APPLE!!

Or at least give the option to re-enable this functionality!
