Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes.

On first execution after a clean install of iTunes 9, this error message:

*Apple Application Support was not found.*

*Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.*

*Error 2*

Can't run iTunes. Already reboot, reinstall, blah blah blah. Windows Vista 32.

Recommendations?

Windows Vista

I finally got it to work! (thanks to r0tt). Due to the fact that Apple & Windows are not compatable the error 2 occurs.
After follow r0tt's instructions, I still had same problem, but he/she steered me in the right direction...
step 1 - Download the Install, saving to your desktop (rather than running it)
step 2 - _*Once completed, disconnect from internet*_
step 3 - Disable both Windows Defender _AND YOUR ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM_ (might be
overkill but i got tired & disabled all & everything)
step 4 - click on icon on desktop & "run"
This cleared up my problem & hopefully yours. _*BUT REMEMBER BEFORE YOU RECONNECT TO INTERNET!... TO SET ALL THE ABOVE TO DEFAULT*_ (or whatever you had as custom settings)

After 3 days of trying other things, this worked for me.

Need to use itunes 8.2 as it does not include the apple application support files.

1. uninstall itunes and qiuck time in the following order.
itunes
quicktime
apple software update
apple mobile device support
bonjour

2. Find itunes 8.2 and save the install exe. to your desktop.

3. Reboot.

4. Right click the install exe. and select run as administrator.

5. VERY IMPORTANT: On one of the menus at the begining of the install it will have options to install ( 3 options )these options will already be pre selected you need to de-select the final option which is "automatically upgrade itunes"you must de-select this or it will upgrade to the 9.0 which requires the apple application support.

6.Click next to complete install.

Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes.
