Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes.

On first execution after a clean install of iTunes 9, this error message:

*Apple Application Support was not found.*

*Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.*

*Error 2*

Can't run iTunes. Already reboot, reinstall, blah blah blah. Windows Vista 32.

Recommendations?

I've had problems since last week Thursday. I bought an iPhone 4 and installed iTunes. Opened iTunes, but when I tried to sync my phone, iTunes closed. An Apple tech told me to uninstall al Apple software in a specific order. I did, then reinstalled, and now iTunes doesn't open, and I get the "Error 2 (Windows Error 5)" code, saying "Apple Application Support was not found".

Called Apple again and talked to Gary. We went through uninstalling and reinstalling a number of different ways. Tried repair on Apple Application Support, didn't work. Tried manually installing just Apple Application Support, no good. He said he needed to research with Windows if we need to edit the Registry and never got back to me.

Called again and Justin helped me. We tried the same things, and a few other things. Used winRar to extract the msi files and repaired, and uninstalled manually. Spent about 3 hours uninstalling and reinstalling Apple software. He helped me make a log file and msinfo file so they can review it. I'll post anything if it can be resolved.

I tried this fix. I opened ITunes in WinRaR and when I click repair or try to install Apple Application Support the following message appears:The configuration data for this product is corrupt, contact your support personnel.

I un-installed iTunes and downloaded it again, only to get the same message over again. I am out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm on my third Apple Shuffle in less than a year. Each time they die within weeks, and each time the software become harder to load with glitches. I've spent so long trying to solve this Error 2 and another incomprehsible message when I'm trying to load i-tunes. Support is completely faceless and non-existent, and the only solution offered is to lead you to buy another product. It certainly puts me off buying any big-ticket item from Apple. I would hate my main computer to be backed up by this level of error, and complete lack of support and customer service. So, is anyone from Apple actually going to step in and offer a proper solution to this problem which seems to be shared by thousands of users, rather than coasting along relying on ingenious unpaid technical users to offer free help to fellow users?

This level of arrogance is astonishing.

Thank you van0037, but I'm way past that point. Apple Applications Support was deleted first time in a bid to sort this problem out, and, despite loading and reloading all the software countless times, and trying everything on this thread, including WinRAR.nothing works. So, I took the latest of the the three or four i-pods I bought which is not working after a few weeks due to software glitches, and simply threw it in the bin - and vowed never to buy another. I used the i-pod for running, but I'm happy enough listening to the wind in the trees and the sound of the birds, or my own breathing. Nothing would induce me to buy any product now, from Apple - and, I can't get at the music I've painstakingly and expensively built up - well.. I'm certainly not going to throw good money after bad. Why should Apple care? Plenty of other suckers waiting in line.

Almost right.

You can use also 7zip to unpack the *.exe file in one container. Afterwards go in the container, right-mice-click and take ownership of all files.

Install or reapir all applications.

If you want connect iPad or iPod you shoul open Computer-Administration/Service, start Apple Mobile Device-Service and set the same to start automatically.

This the only manner to install iTunes under Windows without the "Error: Was not able to open the Key...... Assure you have the rights to manage keys"

This worked for me with a few varieties. A little background - I had to get a netbook because my laptop had a mineral water accident and I can't do my homework on an iPad or Droid tablet.

I was setting up iTunes on the netbook which runs Windows 7 Starter edition. I got the same errror mentioned above. I came here and saw Cr4z33's post but I had already fully uninstalled.

I got WinRAR and right clicked. I double-clicked AppleApplicationSupport.msi instead of repairing it installed it like a regular program. Then iTunes installed as normal but for some reason it was not reading my very old iPod. I went back opened the EXE with WinRAR opened the Mobile.msi and this time the repair option came up and I clicked on that and its working fine. I may have to go click on QuickTime and Bonjour at some point if I really need them.

Thank you so much. I am repurposing my ancient iPod as an in house device wholly separate from my iPhone 4 which is connected to the waterlogged laptop which is not a very fast desktop. LOL!
