I know the itouch doesn't have 'airplane mode' that was only when I checked one app. I constantly keep getting the 'invalid arguement' message. Trying to get Apple Genius Support is out of the quetion because they are down too.

Jailbroken? - No
Router? - Dell
Encryption? - no idea
MAC address filtering? - I assume no since I don't have a Mac

Please help us! This is ridiculous! DO NOT DOWNLOAD 3.1!!!

I wish I could give you all a step by step detail to how I got my Touch to work with my network after 24 hours, but honestly it was a lot of playing around and repeated attempts at inputing my WEP Key before it suddenly worked. I went into my home network settings (I have service with AT&T) on my laptop to make sure my settings on there would allow the network to see the Touch and to possible test the other 3 available WEP Keys stored. I also went into the settings of the Touch for the WiFi connection to check everything out in there (based on what the online manual vaguely suggested). Although I did not change anything within that area it seems like going in there somehow managed to make things work because my next attempt to enter the WEP Key worked like a charm and everything started working. Not sure if my situation is anything like what everyone else is going through, but prior to it working I was getting the same message. Considering the fact that WiFi was never functional on my Touch since I just got it yesterday and I didn't have to upgrade to iTunes 9 (already had it) or the OS since it came loaded on my Touch my situation may not be valid. Just thought I'd share my experience...even though I didn't perform an actual set of steps to fix the problem.

I am also having the same problem with my daughters itouch. She was having the problem before I updated it to the 3.1.1. I have updated (only reason I updated was to hopefully correct this problem) & restored the itouch. I have reset the network connections and input the sec code for the wireless router (Linksys WRT106N). I have also reset all settings. I have two other computers, one additional itouch and an iphone who are all set up using the same wifi.

Same problem here - just started this weekend after upgrading to 3.1.1. Get this message: 'Safari cannot open the page. The error was: "Operation could not be completed. Invalid argument"'.

Strange thing - I get the same message whether within my home network or at work (so obviously not a router issue). Reset device, etc, w no effect. Sometimes it does connect, but sometimes still get this error message, especially if in a "fringe" area (but then would expect a "no wi-fi available" message...).

SAME hear, and I ordered a my first Touch which is refurbished. I was so excited when it came in and th back light doesn't work. You have to but a light over it to see something. I checked the settings and I slide it to max brightness and nothing.

Before that, I immediatelty upgraded to the latest iPod Touch Software and for the **** of it I went to try out safari even though the backlight doesn't work. I also get the same Error message even opening apple.com.

I only use Macs at home with the latest operating systems and version of iTunes, and I use the current generation base Station.

I'm having the exact same problem. When the wi-fi is turned off or not connected, it shows the error "Operation could not be completed. Invalid argument.". When it is connected to my network, Safari shows the "Connecting…" screen forever. I've tried resetting the network settings, and it didn't help. I also can't change the encryption from WEP because I'm using my iMac as a base station. This problem appeared after the 3.1.1 update (from 3.0).
Jailbroken - No.
Router - iMac8,1
AirPort Card Information:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8C)
Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.91.21)
Current Wireless Network: wireless network not available -- (it's off right now)

Encryption - WEP with 40-bit password (no other choice!)
MAC address filtering - I don't think so.

Help!!!
