I recently downloaded itunes 9 and I really don't like it. I want to go back to itunes 8 but I just can't seem to figure out how to do it. Can anyone help me? I've lost my music before and I'm trying not to risk doing that again. Thanks
I had a bunch of junk in that iTunes folder. I put everything but the new iTunes Library file, the iTunes Library xml file, the album artwork folder, and of course the iTunes Music folder, into another folder named "???". I then downloaded and installed 8.2 with the link above. Worked for me. There were some temp files in there that weren't right somehow. I've still had errors each time I've installed 8.0.2 and 8.2.3. But they worked, and after using the method suggested earlier. At least all my wife's playlists and music showed up, and it didn't crash. Cool so far.
Actually, changing icon size and options to view by Albums/Artists/Genres etc. is now an option you can toggle on or off, and apparently upon installation of iTunes 9 it's set to a default "off".
Simply go to your library, choose the "music" tab, (make sure you're in grid view) then go to "View">"Grid View">"Show Header".
You'll have to redo that for video's, podcasts and TV shows (and maybe other stuff, but I don't use those) too.
Thank you so much. I was banging my head against the wall (figuratively) after seeing my iTunes experience so heavily degraded with this 'upgrade' to version 9.0. My heart sank when I read that it wasn't possible to roll back, so seeing your post and reading the success stories was critical. I now have my 8.2.1 back and running again, and all is well with the world. All I lost was my playcounts since about the 14th and a couple track additions I'd made - a small price to pay to be sure, and easily corrected.
For me, version 9 was noticeably slower and clunkier than any of the version 8s. I was quite happy with how it worked, and was just too trusting of the new one. I'll be sure to check user responses first on 'upgrades' before I again blindly dive into one.
In reference to Step 2, could I just move iTunes out of my Application folder into, for example, my Movies folder? Will that have the same effect as deleting it, like you tell us to? Or do I have to actually put it in the trash and permanently delete it?
I ask because, I did merely move iTunes out of my Applications folder and into my Movies, and was able to Steps 3 (I renamed it), 4 and 5.
But since I still have the iTunes from Step 2 on my computer, I'm worried that if I open iTunes 8.2.1 (which is now in my Applications folder), my computer might do something weird like try to open both at the same time or something.
I have Vista - is the Applications folder the same as AppData, found under my User files? I don't want to delete the wrong thing and lose everything...
Thank you!!! Simplicity and ease of use are back in my mac again! I was really upset using an option+click or the two hands shortcut to get the miniplayer and many other things I used to. I did not even regret to loose my playlists.
Hi,
Thank you for this great tip!
I will go ahead and do it if some of you confirms that can be done in Snow Leopard.
I will greatly appreciate the information.
Thank you,
Thank you! It was driving me nuts not being able to use my Zeppelin speakers! I hope they sort that out, because there are things I'd like to have iTunes 9 for...
THANK YOU for these instructions -- iTunes 9 seemed to be a disappointment for me ....especially since the green button didn't launch the Mini Player drove me absolutely batty. Why chance such a basic feature?
