WiFi worked fine for over a year. As soon as I applied the 3.1.2 update, no more WiFi. Apple broke my iPhone.
Called Apple Support...they had me do "Settings / Reset / Reset Network Settings", then hard reset phone, check "Settings / General / About / Wi-Fi Address". It had a value, so she said to connect to my laptop, resynch and it should work. Nope. My network name showed up for about 5 seconds, then disappeared, and hasn't come back. She made me an appointment to go to a genius bar.
After getting off the phone, I ran through the exact same procedure again...except now I DON'T have any value in the Wi-Fi Address settings, and "Settings / Wi-Fi" is greyed out.
From all the posts on this forum, I'm expecting a bit of a fight with the "genius", since my phone is about 45 days out of warranty. But it was working just fine up until Apple provided a "new and improved" firmware...Apple broke my iPhone. I don't care if the hardware isn't under warranty any more, Apple broke my iPhone, so Apple should fix or replace it. If I bring a car in to the garage, and the mechanic drives it into a wall, I certainly don't expect to have to pay them for a new one just because "it's not under warranty!" Apple broke my iPhone, so Apple should fix it.
Hmm....maybe I can get the "United Breaks Guitars" guy to work on a new video...."Apple Breaks iPhones!" I claim copyright on that phrase!! 🙂
