No Wifi after iPhone 3.1 upgrade

I upgraded my iPhone 3G to the 3.1 firmware on Wednesday. Since then, my phone can't see any wifi networks. I've tried to do a restore twice, as well as rebooting the phone a couple times, and it hasn't helped. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix? It's looking like a trip to the Genius bar 😟

"Then how do you explain the 10s of millions of iPhones that don't have any WiFi issues with this firmware?", ok maybe 10s of millions of iPhones don't have any WiFi problem, but if you read this forum, you can see that all say the same thing, suddenly greyed NO WIFI, and I personally have tried everything that is said here and I have not worked, so it is a hardware problem , not software.
I'm desperate and yet very disappointed with apple because I've spent a lot of money on the iphone and I can not believe this happen. Nobody gives a solution, and apple either, that knowing this about their phones not doing anything.
Another issue is that apart from what's happening to me WIFI, battery flies, it takes me a single day, it's crazy with the price of the Iphone.
Please I want a solution now.
Sorry for my English.

If you search through this forum since the iPhone 3G was released July, 2008, there have been reports of "greyed out" Wifi after every firmware update. It is caused by the update process itself, not the specific firmware version, which causes WiFi hardware malfunction in susceptible phones with marginal components.

In almost all cases, troubleshooting steps as well as updating to newer firmware failed to fix it. Apple has replaced many of these phones under warranty. Have you taken it to Apple or the warranty service in your area?

sorry if my post has sounded a bit hostile, but I'm desperate, would not think it was a hardware problem and sincerely distrust lot of technical services. But he will go to Glasgow to see what they say is still in warranty because I do not want to pass me. Do you know if the Iphone which are sim-free have any problem?, Because I bought it in Italy last year and do not know if I'll get problems.
Last question, do you know anything more I can do to try to fix it myself?, Most of all because if some software problem. Thanks anyway.

I have posted my problem here before. I am so surprised that this thread is getting longer and longer without any solution. I have an iPhone 3G 16GB with no problem before the update, like the other people here I tried wiping out everything like 4 or 5 times and I have tested the wifi status to no avail.

Here's the weird thing. My friend gave me an iPhone 3Gs cause I have been complaining of my lack of wifi with my old phone. I have tried the wifi without the SIM card and it works (the phone is unlocked) so then I proceeded in syncing all my applications with the same account to my new phone. Then the wifi couldn't be found anymore. I don't know why that happened but when I removed my data and reset it to the original hardware that came with it, the wifi came back. I just sold the phone because it's AT&T locked and I want a phone that's Globe (Philippines) locked so I can have updates. Now, I am scared to even buy a new Globe locked phone cause I think I am going to experience the same problem. So what do I do? Delete my entire iTunes and download all my applications again??????? I don't know who has the problem the iTunes or the iPhone update.

I have only recently started having this problem - upgraded to 3.1.2 as soon as it was released here in NZ, but only in the past 2 weeks (late November 2009) have I started having wi-fi problems - cannot scan for wireless networks error messages, connecting to my home and public networks but only for a few seconds at a time.

I've tried everything - restart, reset network settings, reset router settings, checked the MAC filtering on my router, and last night did a complete restore of my iPhone and then my router. Still having the same problem.

Come on Apple - clearly there are plenty of people having this problem - where's the fix? We paid heaps to have these phones so we could have portable internet access, and now we're getting nothing.

I think Apple is just straight up ignoring every user with this issue because they never give a straight answer Iphone users Pay ALOT OF MONEY to purchase apples iphone yet they never give support for these issues I cant believe that they ignore the people that switch from Iphone to blackberry because BB provides better support for their clients they just dont IGNORE issues like iphone does. The wifi has been a huge problem all over the world yet apple does nothing about it I guess they just prefer users to switch to blackberry or other devices. Oh well its there LOSS!
