No Wifi after iPhone 3.1 upgrade

I upgraded my iPhone 3G to the 3.1 firmware on Wednesday. Since then, my phone can't see any wifi networks. I've tried to do a restore twice, as well as rebooting the phone a couple times, and it hasn't helped. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix? It's looking like a trip to the Genius bar 😟

i know this sounds realy weird but i have the same issu with a 3g and someone told me to put the phone in the fridge. and it realy works for me. as long as the phone is cold i'am able to connect to any any wifi. you don't have to cooldown the entire phone, the upper side will be enough. i think the wifi is there. so for me its a hardware issue maybe caused by the firmeware. wronge voltage to increase the perforance or some thing like that. and most phones are okay with that but some aren't. try it, for me it's the prof for an hardware issus in my case

MY SOLUTION: I had the problem under 3.1 and 3.1.2 where I can see the AP but can never connect. My solution was to connect my iphone via ad-hoc network to my Mac, using the internet sharing in OSX, BUT set the channel to 5.
OR set the mac to ad-hoc network and connecting my iphone to it and manually set the gateway on the iphone to the mac ip address and the dns to 8.8.8.8 and after that, I can connect to the internet via safari.
After disconnecting, I find that I can connect to any access point again. It may have been some problem with WIFI regional settings, but this trick works for me.

So wififofum fixed my WIFI too (working through the app as well as through settings after running the program once). Very surprised. It hasn't worked in two months, outside of a couple of minutes after doing a full restore. $2.99 well spent. Now...can we get a real fix to what is clearly NOT a hardware issue?

I did the same, buying a Wififofum and try it. When I turn it on it founds many APs and I sure can connect to my AP. but it loses connection after 3-5 mins, sometimes faster.. why is that? Later it's hard to reconnect, not everytime the APs are visible.. It works but not how it should :/ any help..?

What fixed My WiFi Which Just Stopped Working After I Left My Phones Battery To Die One Day. I Just Did A Force Reset Without The Sim Card In The Phone. And For Those Who Don't Know The Force Reset Is Both The (Home + Power) Buttons Ignorning The "Slide To Shut Down" And Your Phone Will Go Straight To The Apple Screen.

Now My Phone Wouldn't Find ANY And I Mean ANY Wifi Networks. Now Im Good Again.

I have had the same problem; iphone 3G won't recognize there is a wi-fi connection (even though I may be right in front of the wi-fi router). If it does finally connect in won't stay connected for longer than a minute.

THIS IS NOT A HARDAWARE PROBLEM! I already took my iphone to the Apple store and they gave me a new phone, but the new iphone replacement is doing the same thing.

Things I have tried on both phones to gain wi-fi access include:

1) turning the phone off and on (works temporarly, but the phone won't stay connected or often continues to show the loading icon forever)
2) turning wi-fi off and on
3) turning airplane mode on and off
4) locating the wi-fi by name (doesn't recognize the connection)
5) reset network settings
6) delete all the contents on the iphone

NOTHING WORKS!! I have not downloaded any new applications or changed anything within the memory. This seems to be a software problem...

What I want to know is when can we expect a fix from Apple? I'm so annoyed with my iphone that I'm about to toss it aside and go back to my old PC-based smartphone...

Alas, I have the same problem. I am on my 3rd 3G iPhone. 1st phone silent switch failed (within warranty). It was replaced. Replacement phone failed 3 months later, this time out of warranty, again silent switch. I took it to Apple store. despite being out of warranty they replaced it for me. I have the 3rd phone 3 weeks and now the Wifi has stopped working. It came with 3.1.2 loaded.

Given the amount of posts, this to me does not appear to be your typical 'random' problem.

I have tried:

- All the reset steps (network settings etc)
- Full restore (twice)
- On/Off
- Freezer (Yes this worked, for a time, then wifi went again)
- Leaving the phone off for a period of time.

Apple need to get their act together here and release a fix or a workaround.

An iPhone without wifi is akin to a Ferrari without an engine. Nice to look at but otherwise useless.

Given my experience I would caution anyone thinking of buying an iPhone now.
Hardware, software issues occur, no big deal, but Apples lack of response
and apparent unwillingness to acknowledge and address these is a huge issue.

I have the same problem with my iPhone 3G which I purchased back in January. Everything was okay until I upgraded to 3.1.2 when I could not connect to Wifi anymore.
I've tried all the tricks and suggestions in this thread and none work.
I did bring the iPhone to the Mac store though, and to my surprise they simply did a scan on the device, which took about 2 minutes, then they immediately gave me a brand new iPhone as a replacement.
I'm really satisfied with this kind of service.
Thanks Apple!!!
