No Wifi after iPhone 3.1 upgrade

I upgraded my iPhone 3G to the 3.1 firmware on Wednesday. Since then, my phone can't see any wifi networks. I've tried to do a restore twice, as well as rebooting the phone a couple times, and it hasn't helped. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix? It's looking like a trip to the Genius bar 😟

Guys!!! All of you, who have "no WiFi" problem after FW-upgrade to 3.1 or 3.1.2...
Forget about new firmware that will make your wifi work.
Your iPhone's WiFi chip is dead! I'm serious.
Somehow this upgrade DO FRY wifi-module, and there's nothing to wait from Apple to fix this problem in new upgrades. And they certainly know about that, but just keep silence.
YOU MUST GO TO APPLE, YOU MUST CLAIM AND DEMAND NEW IPHONE or SMTH. Even if you have no warranty cover - it's Apple problem, not yours.
This is the only solution. There's no Apple office in my country (Russia), so i went to the nearest cellphone service, and they said me the same thing and just replaced wifi module in a couple of hours (for money, of course). Everything works good now.

My iPhone 3.1.2 Wifi connects sometimes. but I need to forget the network and re-enter the **** WEP password which the iPhone sometimes likes and sometimes doesn't like. This occurs whether at home or at work, whether set to DHCP or static IP, whether I reboot the router or not. I tear up while I stand next to people with Nokias connecting to Wifi *every time* while I have to wait to see whether I win the Wifi lottery ...

Yep, I'm on my 3rd replacement after having a dead wifi chip.
Apple warned me that when its out of warranty (only a month away) I'll have to pay for a replacement!!
if it dies again, I'll ditch the phone and get something more stable.
Apple should have tested their upgrade better

I wonder if its a master plan to make everyone upgrade to a newer phone??

I had same problem - finally after deleting some old profiles I had lying around (for testing company iphone apps) & then resetting the network settings & rebooting my wifi came back - look in Settings -> General -> Profiles & make sure you don't have anything in there - just delete them & reset your network settings & reboot & see if that works as it did for me...

Those of you with wifi that "sorta" works, I may have a solution. If you're able to see access points listed, but have difficulty connecting, or the signal seems too weak, the following helped me, and is super-easy. Even if your wifi doesn't work at all, it's worth a shot:

1. Open the Maps app.

2. Hold the power button until the "slide to power off" message shows up. Release the power button. (but don't actually slide the slider!)

3. Hold the home button until you end up back at the Springboard.

4. Re-open Maps.

I know it may seem like this has nothing to do with wifi, but I had signal issues with both wifi and gps. Both were working, but barely. Once I did this, both started working perfectly.

I had my iPhone 3 G replaced recently and the replaced set has come with 3.1.2, and I had the same wi-fi issues. All solutions suggested in this forum have not worked. I read elsewhere that 'heating' element is causing this problem and for some users it worked well, when they put their iPhone in a 'Freezer" for about 5-8 minutes.

To my utter surprise it worked for me as well. Yesterday night, I have put the phone in the freezer for 5 minutes and after taking it out, i just clicked >Settings>Wifi> it immediately found by home wifi and prompted for my WPA password. It is now working in my office wifi.

See if it works for you guys who r still having problems. My phone is out of waranty and I have ventured this. Take care, warranty issues of this action, in case your piece is still in waranty.

Good Luck!

I am beyond mad. I just got the new 3GS and have had it less than 24hours. I'm having the exact same issue. I was able to log onto my wifi network yesterday and now today it doesn't show the wifi symbol at the top yet when looking in settings I have a checkmark next to my wifi network. However, the speed at which I am browsing is definitely 3G... very slow and not at all what it was yesterday.

No amount of tricks I've tried has enabled me to get back on the wifi.

I have similar problems with my iphone, ive had it for just over a week now and it wont connect to any network whether it be a open or protected network. It keeps showing "Unable to Connect to Network" now i know its not my router thats at fault as my friend has the same iphone as me (3G) and his connects with no problem to the same networks.

Ive tried all the checks that ive seen and still no joy and my provider are giving me the same checks to do as apple so im no closer to a fix for this problem and im ready to send it back to Orange. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂
