No Wifi after iPhone 3.1 upgrade

I upgraded my iPhone 3G to the 3.1 firmware on Wednesday. Since then, my phone can't see any wifi networks. I've tried to do a restore twice, as well as rebooting the phone a couple times, and it hasn't helped. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix? It's looking like a trip to the Genius bar 😟

Hi all,

Iphone 3G, with 3.1.3OS no previous issues, IT background - no warranty

I have just ordered and received a new wifi antenna, I have opened and replaced my iphone3G wifi antenna, and there is no wifi activity, albeit that I do have a MAC address still displayed in the Setting - general - about,

my wifi has worked for some time, required a network setting reset a while ago, but no other issues. I have used it abroad only a week ago in the alps, and now its dead.

I think there is more to this than apple even know. I believe if they had a fix organised it would have been released in the 3.1.3 update.

what we need is to organise a co-ordinated arrival at apple stores around the world to sort this out. e.g. replace the phone, or fix the phone. I believe apple is the hardware and software to overtake microsoft in the future, but we have to act.

Its important that we dont just stop emailing etc. but if hundreds of us around the world can appear at apple outlets, we might get a direct answer from apple.

2,500,000 million iphones sold says Steve Jobs. how many have no Wifi!!!

Apple Store Turn out to question the managers... Who's In.?

hi all, i hope my experience helps to you all who has the same problem.
I also lost my wi-fi connection after I upgraded to 3.1.2
here is how I upgraded:
-my iphone 3gs is locked and had os 3.0
-i used ultrasnow and cydia to jailbreak and unlock
-i needed to upgrade to 3.1.2
-first I found a firmware (generated by pwnagetool 3.1.4)
-then I used itunes to upgrade to that firmware
-at this point I got an iphone with no cellular network but has wifi.
-i used cydia to load blacksnow and installed blacksnow (it gave an error)
-at this point still no cellular network but has wifi
-then i used cydia and installed ultrasnow
-now I got cellular network but wifi has gone
-then I unistalled blacksnow using cydia
-and reinstalled ultrasnow again
- i got cellular and wifi both...

hope this helps... I can give more details if needed..
cheers..

A new twist on this bizarre issue. My iPhone works fine in Europe, but on U.S. soil I get "No wi-fi" in grey, regardless of whether I use the sim from Swedish Telia or AT&T. Any thoughts on that?

Also, I have noticed that when I do not have wi-fi, the iPhone uses up battery at an alarming rate. It is trying to to something.

I hope this info may help someone figure out what it going on.

Does that mean that you get wifi back again when you return to Europe? Did you notice whether or not you're able to get a valid GPS fix in the Maps application?

I've heard speculation that some (maybe many) of the wifi problems are due to trouble trying to determine location. (Location can be determined from cell tower triangulation, GPS, or via wifi)

Could you attempt (under Settings, General, Resets) a Location warning reset, and then a reboot? And/or try the instructions in my previous post in this thread regarding the force quit of the "Maps" app.

Hi there, as for the GPS, it appears to be working on my phone.

find and download an app called

Instamapper
GPS Tracker.

register whatever you have to - its free, and go outside. within about 60 seconds it should pick up the satellites, and start to use your 3G link to upload to the web your location.

you can then check the result by going to www.instamapper.com and loggin on to show your location.

this should identify if you have also a GPS issue. I do not. I am slowly coming around to this being either a very fine fracture somewhere in the wifi chip, which is along the side of the iphone, where we all hold it. or a software issue. I have to say I am leaning towards a SW issue.

has anyone here tried to build an APP using the SDK to test the WIFI module???

Hi Everyone.

something which happened me today was interesting, it didnt fix the problem, but it may be an interesting test to see what the overall result is.

Leave your iphone to run its battery all the way down until it powers itself off.

When it has powered itself off, try and turn it on, to be sure every last bit of juice is out of it..... if its totally empty it will show a battery with a flashing lightening bolt.

plug it in, and it should boot up shortly after that. Try your wifi network.

If it works, it will probably fail shortly afterwards, it did on mine. But this is more info for apple if we can re-create the result.

Just experienced the same issue... after upgrading to iPhone OS 3.0 I cannot connect to wifi. I get the error message "cannot scan for wireless networks".
I've now spent a few days researching this issue and cannot find an answer or even acknowledgement from Apple on the issue.
Very frustrating as one of the main reasons for buying the iPhone was the wifi access. Without it... it's just a phone which I could buy for much cheaper!!!
Apple... please fix this ASAP.
