No Wifi after iPhone 3.1 upgrade

I upgraded my iPhone 3G to the 3.1 firmware on Wednesday. Since then, my phone can't see any wifi networks. I've tried to do a restore twice, as well as rebooting the phone a couple times, and it hasn't helped. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix? It's looking like a trip to the Genius bar 😟

Same issue here, at least I think it is. Problem started after installing 3.1 on my 3g.

In Settings, I can still connect to a WiFi network (it shows checked), but the little 3g icon at the top of the screen never changes to the WiFi symbol. So, I'm not sure if I'm running over WiFi or not. Any way to tell?

Since the update, I've only seen this with WiFi networks to which I've been connected in the past. Today, I was at a new place that had supposedly WiFi, but the phone couldn't see the network. I need to try some other places I haven't been to see if this is really a problem.

Very strange

Iphone is about 6months old so may try getting a new one - do you get a like for like replacment or what - Any more details on how i go about thsi would be brilliant. Also what fo you do before/after if you get a new one.

My iPhone (3G model) WIFI used to work with all OS versions I have had on it. But since V3.1 it cannot show me any WIFI networks. When having it with me in a flat where it used to find 6 to 7 available networks still the same. It seems like the network card is just not there.

Apple, who do I contact to get my device working again?

Add me to the list. iPhone 3G. Wi-Fi worked fine even with 3.0.1, got flaky for a few days with 3.1, and then completely died (Wi-Fi greyed out, no MAC address). I was able to get it back for a few minutes once. Tried everything on the FAQ. Apple replaced the phone, no problem. However, now with the new phone, my Wi-Fi is again getting flaky again. All other wi-fi devices work fine. Apple must address this soon or risk losing loyal customers.

I can confirm that Apple are aware of this issue and that engineering are actually working on a fix for this issue. If the Wi-Fi address is listed in Settings > General > About then there is a likely chance that Wi-Fi should work fine, if not then the iPhone is eligible for a straight-up repair/replacement under warranty if you have tried the following; inc. if Wi-Fi is grayed out; 1. Reset network settings, 2. Restore to factory settings with no success. Basic troubleshooting will need to be determined in order to be honoured servicing options.

I've got the same problem with 2 iPhones.

I've had an iPhone 3G for 18months which has always worked fine with Wi-Fi.

On Thursday I was sent a new iPhone 3G (not 3Gs) which I setup last night - no Wi-Fi.

My old iPhone had a factory restart last night and was upgraded to 3.1, again no Wi-Fi, even though minutes before the restart it had been working fine.

I've tried most of the fixes out there, Airplane mode the out, adding a $ to the start of your password and nothing seems to work.

We've also got an iPod Touch at home running 2.2.1 and the Wi-Fi works fine. I'm sure this a software issue rather than hardware.

I am from the Philippines and I have the same problem with my iPhone. My wi-fi worked fine before the upgrade, now I couldn't access my wi-fi at home or anywhere else. I did a full restore and it worked for awhile then now it's gone again. I don't want to restore again.

I also experienced the "graying" of the wi-fi connection but after the restore it "tries" to search for
wi-fi and it couldn't find any even if I am next to my Time Capsule. Oh, it does seem my battery life has shortened. I could use my phone for about 24 hours straight without a recharge now it seems I only have 12 hours and I need to recharge my phone again.

I hope Apple gives us an update soon.

Unfortunately you can count me in on this too.

No wi-fi on 3G, 2 months old, since 3.1 update.

Have tried all solutions offered on the net so far (clearing settings, restoring etc etc) still nothing, phone cannot "see" any networks even sitting on top of my router (which works fine with all my other devices).
There's topic after topic on this problem all over this forum and the net in general and still nothing from Apple - just a "we're aware of the problem and are working on a fix" would be nice.
Luckily mine is still within warranty but I'm nervous the replacement will just go south aswell and I feel very sorry for those whos phones are out of warranty.
