Apple TV not responding-Port 3689

I have been syncing with my Apple TV for almost 2 years. My only recent changes have been the upgrade to Snow Leopard. When I tried to sync today and clicked on the more info I received the following response:

Once you have synced or paired the Apple TV to your Mac to establish a syncing or streaming connection, iTunes may say "The Apple TV [Name] is not responding. Check that any firewall software running on this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689."

Firewall is not enabled presently. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I confirm you that after upgrade to rel 3.01, all the problems have been solved. The libraries have been sinc to atv (I've tested also streaming mode and it works) and system does not crash. I've done different test (disconnect libray, unplug and plug atv, switch off and on iMac and iTunes) always with the same good result.
Remote from ipod touch works fine, switching from atv to itunes library. The control of speakers connected through airport in different points of my flat is now ok.
for info my media are contained in two different external drives. Firewall is not active on my system.
I'm not an expert of mac world (i'm just a beginner) but if someone need to know more I'm fully available

For me it's fixed: since using Mac OSX.6.2 and ATV 3.01 I had the 3689 error and finally to resolve the problem, I have inactived ALL the active networks keeping only the one for the ATV.

As soon I launched ITunes 9.02 the synchronization started automatically and never failed.
Now it works as before. (10.6.1 and 3.0).
Long time ago with ATV 2.2 and MacOS 10.5.x I had to apply the same fix until Apple fixed it with ATV 2.4...
Hope it can help.

Hi All

Yes, I also have been experiencing the problem for a week or so now. I run a PC and have disabled the firewall - however, it has worked fine for over a year with the firewall on.

I followed the help instructions and added the port to the 'safe' list but no improvement.

Honestly I cannot say if it is iTunes v9 or not? In the last few hours I have reset my ATV and gone back to v. 2 due to all the problems with v3. The ATV plays fine now but syncing is still a problem....

So, I am in the same boat as all the rest...have AtV 3.01, 10.6.2 and 9.0.2. Same probs. After it's been on standby for a while, get the same probs...soon as I restart the iTunes it works fine.
I am just curious how everyone has their's set up...more specifically, is anyone hardwired/ethernet at both points...NO WIRELESS involved?

HOLY MOTHER OF CRAP...I HAVE SIMPLE FIX THAT HAS HELD FOR 72 HOURS NOW!!!!!!

Am basing this theory on, as this was the last change that I had made since the ATV connection hasn't failed.

As most (or some anyway) here, I THINK, all of my media that I am streaming to ATV is from a secondary USB drive.

All I did was take like 4 shows...saved them to the Movies folder on my Mini's harddrive...them added them to iTunes...and then set them up as there own TV show folder in TV SHOWS Library that is to stream to ATV....

Since doing this, I haven't had to restart iTunes ONCE!!!!!!!

Just a FYI...
