HP LaserJet 1022 Printing Problems - Please Post Here

Sorry, I hate to create a new thread, but tracking so many different threads on this one issue is becoming problematic for me. So with that being said, if you are still having a problem with printing to a LaserJet 1022 after the full uninstall I detailed in the FAQ thread followed by installing version 2.2 of the HP driver package, then let me know here. And specifically I want to know is which device you have, how your device is connected, the print driver version, and what apps are giving you problems. In my own personal testing, here is what I have found:

USB direct connect - OK, I have yet to run into a problem here.
USB connected to an Airport Extreme N - OK, I have yet to run into a problem here.
USB connected to an Airport Express G - Paused problem. I got print job/page out and then the printer paused and would not resume. I don't have a functioning work around here yet, but I'm trying.

So if I were going to fill out my own form, it would look like this:

Printer: LaserJet 1022n
Connection: USB connected to an Airport Express G (Firmware version 6.3)
Driver Version: 1.1.0.182
Apps: All
Problem Description: Printer queue goes into a Paused mode and won't resume

And to get you started, I have left a blank template at the end of this post.

Also please make sure to include whether you have the 1022, 1022n, or 1022nw AND how it is connected to your Mac. If users of the 1020, what to chime in on this thread that is OK. Anyone else, please post in the FAQ thread or a different device specific thread. As the 1022 seems to be the most problematic at the moment, I'd like to track this down as quickly as possible.

Just trying to help.

Andrew

Printer: LaserJet 1022
Connection: USB connected to an Airport Extreme N (latest firmware, etc)
Connection: USB connected to an Airport Express G (latest firmware, et)
Connection: USB Direct connection.
Driver Version: 1.1.0.182
Apps: All
Problem Description: Can sometimes print a single page but then all status lights flash on printer and I have to turn the printer off - other times, nothing happens (printer pauses and will not resume). Have tried connecting via Bonjour and IP address and directly via USB but same problem occurs.

Hi,

OS X Version: 10.6.1, fully patched
Printer: LaserJet 1022n
Firmware Datecode: 20061215
Connection #1: USB direct
Connection #2: RJ45 direct
Driver Version: 1.1.0.182
Apps: All supporting printouts
Problem Description:
The LaserJet only prints odd pages and finishes job with a blank page. Sometimes blank pages get shuffled (in a random way, e.g. 2 pages when printing 21) between pages. Paper tray is not overfilled or pages aren't sticking together.

@Connection type: The issue happens with USB and Ethernet connection.

This particular printing problem exists since an update from Leopard to Snow. So far I’m having issues with Snow, only. Windows 7 and Leopard (10.5.8) print fine.

However, there’s some kind of workaround: If I use Gutenprint v5.2.3 (ships with Snow) the issue is resolved. The downside is, that most of the printing features are not available when using Gutenprint and images look crappy compared to the HP driver.

I tried all the posted stuff (delete files, reset printing system, etc.). The only thing I haven't tried is to erase the HDD and perform a vanilla install of Snow. If this fixes the mentioned "queue update" problem I'll post it here.

@Andrew: If you need more info, just drop line.

Cheers.

Printer: LaserJet 1022
Connection: USB connected to an Airport Express (Firmware version 6.3)
Driver Version: 1.1.0.182
Apps: All
Problem Description: Printer queue goes into a Paused mode and won't resume

With the SL installation I was able to print exactly one time. Then I had to reset the Airport Express box to print exactly one page.

After doing an uninstall detailed in your FAQ entry and re-installing the HP drivers 2.2 package, I'm even not able to print a single page via Airport.

Printer: LaserJet 1022
Connection: USB direct connect
Driver Version: 1.1.0.182
Apps: iWork 2009 - Pages, Office 2008 - Word
Problem Description: Prints odd pages only - ie. 1, 3, 5 etc, then all three lights flash. Doesn't print again until I turn the printer off/on.

Followed instructions on other post re. stripping out all HP files/prefs etc - but to no effect 😟

My problem is exactly as you describe. Printer goes into pauze after 1 print. Have to reset printer, disconnect and start airport again, than i can print one page: next job printer goes into pauze. I have deleted the old HP map in Lbrabry/printers and Snow Leopard has downloaded new HP software.
In printer driver screen under Job info there is a message: "unable to open device"
Hope you can find a solution...

Printer: 1022
Connection: USB
Driver Version: 1.1.0.182
Apps: Skim (pdf-file)
Problem Description: Had problems printing when connected over WiFi; could print single-sided, but when printing two-sided I got blinking lights after one page was printed (top and bottom light, and middle light switching), and also got the blank page others have described - at the end of the first complete round of single-sided prints.

Used described method of "cleaning" up HP-files, and connected to USB port. Still get similar, but not identical problem. Now all lights flash at the same time after a problem, and option to print two-sided is grey (cannot select it). May be worth adding that I didn't get an offer to use the printer with HP-drivers after the cleaning procedure - only Gutenprint. Installed old drivers, ran Software Update, and then got the latest drivers.

OK, to help narrow things down a bit more I am asking for some more information (this time about your computer and Airport where applicable). Below is a description of what I am looking for as well as the new template to use.

Just trying to help.

Andrew

PS, The processor and memory information can be found in About this Mac under the Apple menu. The Airport Firmware version can be found using Airport Utility in your /Applications/Utilities folder (and this information isn't needed if direct USB connected to the Mac, otherwise please include it).

=====

Computer: The type of computer you have (ie MacBook Pro)
Processor: The processor type in your computer (see About this Mac)
Memory: How much memory is on your computer (see About this Mac)
Printer: Which printer modle you have (1022/1022n/1022nw/1020)
