HP LaserJet 1022 Printing Problems - Please Post Here

Sorry, I hate to create a new thread, but tracking so many different threads on this one issue is becoming problematic for me. So with that being said, if you are still having a problem with printing to a LaserJet 1022 after the full uninstall I detailed in the FAQ thread followed by installing version 2.2 of the HP driver package, then let me know here. And specifically I want to know is which device you have, how your device is connected, the print driver version, and what apps are giving you problems. In my own personal testing, here is what I have found:

USB direct connect - OK, I have yet to run into a problem here.
USB connected to an Airport Extreme N - OK, I have yet to run into a problem here.
USB connected to an Airport Express G - Paused problem. I got print job/page out and then the printer paused and would not resume. I don't have a functioning work around here yet, but I'm trying.

So if I were going to fill out my own form, it would look like this:

Printer: LaserJet 1022n
Connection: USB connected to an Airport Express G (Firmware version 6.3)
Driver Version: 1.1.0.182
Apps: All
Problem Description: Printer queue goes into a Paused mode and won't resume

And to get you started, I have left a blank template at the end of this post.

Also please make sure to include whether you have the 1022, 1022n, or 1022nw AND how it is connected to your Mac. If users of the 1020, what to chime in on this thread that is OK. Anyone else, please post in the FAQ thread or a different device specific thread. As the 1022 seems to be the most problematic at the moment, I'd like to track this down as quickly as possible.

Just trying to help.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Printer: LaserJet 1022
Connection: USB
Driver Version: 1.1.0.182
Apps: All
Problem Description: Can print a single task but afterwarsds the orange light flashes and the printer goes off-line. I have to turn the printer off and on again to restore the connection.
Two other printers, a Xerox and a HPCP3505 connected through ethernet work fine.
Thank you for helping.

Best regards,

Serge

Until the problem is solved you can do the following:
Instead of the HP driver 1.1.0.182, use Gutenprint 5.2.3 driver. This driver ships with SL. The printer completes the job correctly, i.e. prints even and odd pages. However, the drawbacks are images look crappy and the resolution is limited to 600 dpi instead of 1200 dpi. Plus, some features like Ret or jam recovery are not available.

@ Andrew:

I tried a few things: To avoid any side effects I wiped my HDD (single pass) and purged my TM backups Then I did:

1) I reinstalled Snow Leopard 10.6 to the wiped HDD
2) updated SL to 10.6.1
3) installed HP drivers 2.2 (includes HP 1022n driver 1.1.0.182)
4) since I purged my TM-backups, my config is a clean SL install, not an update from 10.5

-> still the same problem. I think it must be a driver issue, because the Gutenprint driver do work correctly. However, I still prefer to use HP drivers as they offer all printer features.

Interestingly, my CUPS logs (access and page log) reveal no error:
localhost - - [02/Oct/2009:16:27:45 +0200] "POST /printers/HP LaserJet1022n HTTP/1.1" 200 1408 Create-Job successful-ok

However, after the print job is finished all printer lights are flashing.

Note that as with any printer, printing even then odd pages is still supported so you can get manual duplexing, you just have to print twice.

Nope, that doesn't help at all! Because A) if I select "print even pages" then the printer prints still only odd pages, e.g. my printer prints pages 2,6,10 etc. instead of pages 2,4,6,8,10,etc and B) most documents I print on a regular basis have 20+ pages! That's ridiculous to do so!

sid++,

Thanks for the info from the CUPS logs. Even though there are no errors, at this point any and all info helps.

And yes, I know the Even/Odd thing does NOT work for people that don't have the 1022 actually printing correctly. Printing only every other even page doesn't help. But there are many many people with working devices, so for them it will work.

And THANK YOU for doing a full clean install and letting us know it still doesn't work. This rules out a lot of potential problems Unfortunately it also raises questions I don't yet have the answer to.

Just trying to help.
