Same issue, status bar reaches 90-95% and then fails, every time.. I cannot send pictures, and I still receive the old MMS alert (website login) when receiving a picture from another person. This is more than just a network issue, it seems to be a mechanical or operational issue. We shouldn't have to contact AT&T to manually fix our individual problems, if we did, then they should have beefed up their technicians instead of their towers.

I have tried multiple times a variety of fixes, restoring, resetting, etc. none of which actually fix this problem. I have the iPhone 3G, OS 3.1 and have updated the AT&T carrier to its current 5.5 edition. I have a individual texting plan.

And this isn't even new technology, I mean, MMS has been around for some time and is present in the simplest and relatively oldest of cell phones.

I know different things are working for different people, but here's what worked for me. I just went in to Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. After reset I tried again. Didn't think it would work at first. Got to 90% and just stayed there for about 30 seconds, then went through. About 5 minutes later, the pic came through on the other phone. It's still slow and crappy, but at least it worked. I'll be so glad when ATT isn't exclusive carrier anymore.

I'm having the same problem and I'm trying this now. Wish me luck! I'll let you know after I do this if it works.

Well, it didn't work for me! aaarrggghh.... what a waste of time. Oh well, I don't care much for MMS anyway because I don't really use it and I'm not in any text plan anyway.

    Tom,
THANK U! THANK U SO MUCH!! I did exactly what you said because I also had a 2G model before upgrading to 3G. Turns out you were 100% correct. Apparently, the rep in AT&T Technical Support found that my ICCID and IMEI numbers were in the billing system but not in the backend system. Backend system is the terminology she used (for those still experiencing the MMS failure problem). When she added the IMEI and ICCID to the backend system, she instructed me to reboot my phone. The moment I turned the phone on, a number of MMS messages popped up. They were MMS messages that were sent as test last night by AT&T. She also had me send her a message to test my sending capability. It worked!
I am so glad you posted that fix because I was becoming extremely frustrated trying to figure a way to fix the problem.
    Your Awesome!!

i have tried everything. i have itunes version 9.0.1, iphone 3.1, at&t carrier file 5.5. i have reset my phone. i have restored my phone. i have reset all setting. i have turned airplane mode off, then on. everything i do leaves me with the same thing: 95%, then red exclamation mark. i know that others are having the same problem as me, but my gf and brother, who both have 3gs, have no problem. my dad and i have 3g, his is fine, mine is not. we were all standing in the same room and it didnt work for me and it did for them. they all live close to me, so it cannot be because of downed cell tower or something.

im really good with computers but for the love of pete i just don't get why my phone is singled out (i know others feel the same way). i upgraded from original to 3g ten months ago, so i dont think it's because at&t has my 2g data still on file, like i've read with other people. i'm looking for consistency and it should be there, especially since i've done everything right from the beginning. if my whole area was down that's one thing. i know it's my phone but i cannot for the life of me figure out the problem. now i know what dr house feels like.

    help...anyone.
    thanks.

Ditto to every bit of that. I spent about 3 hours on the phone last night after trying for hours (restoring, resetting network settings, rebooting, etc.) and Apple finally gave up and blamed it on AT&T (who had already blamed it on Apple since I called them first) and told me it was a network issue that would be worked out in a few hours. It's been 14 hours, still no MMS.

I AM ABOUT TO DITCH THIS CRAP FOR A BLACKBERRY THIS IS RIDICULOUS. WHY DO WE HAVE TO KILL OURSELVES AS CONSUMERS TRYING TO FIX WHAT THEY MESSED UP?!

Same problem here. 3 "techs" following their scripts to perfection...that's sure is fun. 45 minutes with each. My IMEI number was incorrect within the system, but they changed it and still nothing. The tech finally gave up and told me an Apple rep would call me sometime today. Boy, that sure makes me feel confident. There is obviously something that was overlooked during this whole switch over. It sounds like most people are just fine, but i guess i will keep paying for something i don't get. The only conceivable option i now have is to replace the sim card. Forgive me if my hopes aren't very high.

mine will not send anything or recieve anything, just a exclamation point. i called att and they couldnt do anything. i live in a very small area so i highly doubt its because everyone is trying to send pics. guess ill just be using my phone like before. d*mn at&t.

My message with attached photo seems to go through. Then about a minute or two later the red exclamation point comes up Ah…just tried again and I see now that the bar goes 90% and craps out.

Your new Blackberry isn't going to do anything with MMS either this weekend -- when the towers are overwhelmed, where do you thing your BB is going to send it's 3G MMS messages through?...have been testing all weekend -- when MMS does not work on iPhone, it does not work on BB either, nor any other phone in the house. They are all going through the same signal tower. When the iPhone works, so does the BB....

It's network problems at ATT, not Apple. It's also why ATT was so reluctant to even allow this feature to be added. Two years later, they STILL don't have the infrastructure to keep it running....they could barely do so with their BB and WM phones -- so I can't say I am in the bit surprised one they added iPhones to the mix.

    FIX:

I have been all over the boards/blogs reading about this one. Stop wasting your time rebooting, wiping your phone, turning on/off settings, etc. I was on the phone with AT&T tech support for 1hr. The only solution is for them to manually refresh your settings from their Apple support dept. They first checked my serial number, account settings, sim card settings, taking off all my features and putting them back on. The only option was to call in from another phone, they refresh my settings, reboot, and viola- every text message I have been trying to send or other people sent me instantly showed up at once. They said only one area of people had this issue but it keeps spreading. A giant spiraling glitch in the matrix. Look out for the black cat.

Do not call apple. Call AT&T. Wait in line, a large number of people have this problem. A lot of them had a first gen iPhone first.

Hey SkateboarTB I was at my wits end and I read a little comment on a topic somewhere . I tried it and it worked. I just went in and did a general-reset-reset all settings and I got all my mms texts sent to me from the att rep.I was also able to send and receive after that. Resetting my sounds apps etc was a small price to pay.. Good luck. I am in Philly and have a 3GS.
