Mini display port to HDMI problem

I have my aluminum Macbook perfectly wired up to my 32 inch RCA HDTV. Nothing will come up on the screen, I've tried detect display, I've tried restarting the computer, unplugging and plugging back in then detect display, turned the tv of and on, but nothing is working. I am currently running Snow Leopard, but when I was on Leopard this process of attaching the TV to the computer just took about 10 minutes of doing desultory processes that I've already described. Any suggestions on how to make it work the first time?

I have a 2011 iMac with a AMD Radeon HD 6770M and a third-party MDP X HDMI cable...

It's not detecting my LG TV in OSX Lion... But, its working very well with Windows in Bootcamp...

Since i bought my cable on Monday (28/11) i couldn't test before 10.7.2 update.

I'ts certainly a software problem because i'ts working with WIN7 in bootcamp....

How could we fix it?

Nov 30, 2011 9:23 PM in response to Tintan68

Tintan68: The 'gfxcardstatus' program should either be in your application folder or in my case, already displayed on the upper right hand corner of the computer screen (where the time is). If this application is installed look for either an 'n' or 'i' icon there. Click on it and select 'n' for NVIDIA. Good luck.

On the first page of this discussion Ponponhead stated that connecting his adapter to his computer, turning on his TV, and then connecting the cable from the TV to the Adapter "worked". After numerous tries of just standard plugging in my second screen to make it work in 1920x1080px resolution I tried this, and it worked the first time - the 1920x1080px resolution was now available as an option in the "screen-options" panel. Before I could only choose like, 1024x768 or 1360x768 at highest, which looks kinda silly on a 24'' screen.

When I bought the screen I had these problems as well, and the screen wouldn't go into HD before I had it connected to another computer, and reconnected it to my macbook pro. It has gone on HD since, until ofc this morning where I had to mess around with it again, and googled my way to this forum.

So from now on I'll plug it in and hope that it has remembered my settings, as it usually did. But if that doesn't work. Adapter in computer, power on screen, connect screencable to adapter, and if that doesn't work, so help me god I will "windows-style" try it all over again...

TRY THIS:

I have same problem,

I often use a Macbook Pro 13" connect to a TV plasma Samsung 42" by adapter MiniDisplay Port to HDMI to watch movie or play game (i alway use Command+F1 to switch Screen to Mirror/ two Screen). But one day, when i'm playing asphatl6, i press Command+F1 too much (4-5s), my TV can't not display anything, i had restart, plug-in/ out...bla bla... but it can't work.

I google 2 day, found alot topic like this but can't help my self.

Then today, i try repair it work, first, i come to tell you:

1. Connect Mac with Second Display (TV) by MiniDisplay to HDMI - Adapter cable (all On now)

2. Just close your Macbook (your Mac will be Sleep now).

3. Now, you open it, then press any key to wake up my Mac.

4. Goto Menu/ Sleep (one more)

5. Press any key to wakeup your Mac again.

Then your TV/ Display Monitor work. I go to System Preferences/ Hardware/ Display to Open Display window. Now, There is "Arrangerment" button between Display and Color buttons, to edit something for my second screen.

I don't know why but it WORK.

I used a china cheap cables but it's not about hardware. I think there are some bugs in software, when you plugin your hardware to much, it can't change fast enough.

Hope this help you.

Ok, so I have the latest model 13" macbook air with Lion, and when I connect it to my 720p hd tv to watch movies, the display/sound fades in and out. i.e. it works notmally for 10-30 seconds, then blacks out/mutes the audio (coming through HDMI). I am using the griffin adapter. Same issue occurs at different resolutions.

The same adapter/computer works fine on my 720p projector (no flickering).

The same adapter/ HDMI cable(tried 2)/TV works fine with my pre-thunderbolt mac book pro.

Same issue with or without audio running through HDMI.

HELP!!!!

I am also having a mini display port to HDMI problem. It is very specific to 5.1 PCM audio only and only my back right speaker I can't get audio.

It does not have this problem when I am playing encoded audio such as DTS 5.1 and DD 5.1. My receiver says it receives multi channel 5.1 audio on the screen when I play 5.1 PCM and it says DD/DTS 5.1 when I play that.

I am using OSX Lion 10.7.2 on a mid 2010, 27 inch iMac.

Thanks

I have been running the miniDisplay to HDMI for a few months now without any problems. Mine was an OEM model running on SONY HDMI 1.4a HIGH SPEED cable. I think some of the problem here is caused by the cable, not rated as HIGH SPEED. Apparently, there are some fake HIGH SPEED cable in the market. The sound output on TV also with no problems but this has to be done manually, to switch from internal speakers to TV. And what I normally do if I want to use the TV as the main screen and shut off my MBP 15" screen, for watching movies, etc since Apple has not solve the Full Screen issue, is to partially close the MBP screen until an 1" gab is left. This will push all the image to the TV, making it the master screen.

I cant actually beleive how many different remedies there are for this on this thread!

Its not a faulty lead, its not settings to mirror etc because you cant actually see these settings until your display is detected!

I had this working on snow leopard and lion until an update! So its clear either on purpose or a bug!

But seen as apple dont fully support display port to hdmi (yet) this probably was never tested or gunna be fixed

But hey who knows!!!!

Ive tried three different TVs with this and no joy.

In my case, I'm pretty sure it's the cable/adapter. I thought for a while that it was a software problem, too. It works with my friends adapter, and I managed to get it working once in a while by jerking the cable in and out when I was playing with it earlier. At one point I had it working by sticking the connector halfway in and pulling on the cable at a certain angle, but it stopped working as soon as I let go of the cable.

I think the reason why this thread has almost 300,000 views is that it's just too hard to manufacture these adapters. The mini displayport design is simply too small. I opened up the plug on my adapter, and it's just a big mess in there. The wires in the cable are hand-soldered to the connector, and the soldering points are extremely tiny. Better yet, this has to be done by a chinese worker with minimal training to keep cost down.

If anyone who works for Apple is reading this, please just change the mini displayport connector to a HDMI connector on your next line of computers. It would be so much easier.

my case:

got a white macbook 2009 version.

with mini display port to HDMI with "moshi" adapter and "artwizz hdmi mini port cable" as well, both works fine.

connecting to Asus Pro art PA248 monitor.

change to newly mac air in 2011 using the same adapter connect to the same monitor. ( with updated display port firmware installed)

which it detect the monitor wrong and cannot find the correct profile.

try manually del and change the profile

the extension monitor display works but still cannot get the correct colour profile

(could choose the profile but no effect at all - profile choosen - sRGB 2.1)

try 2 montior still not woking.

solution:

need to use the apple mini port to DVI, the only solution to make all things work correctly.

seems there is a software problem, anyone got simliar case???

Hi everyone! I'm using a Macbook Pro Mini Display port to HDMI. I just hooked it up and it goes fuzzy for a second, then shows a split second of a mac desktop. While I was messing around in the settings I could see my windows appear in the breif second it works, and then the fuzz repeats every couple seconds. It's really annoying. Any help would be appreciated. I'm using a TIVA TV w/ a 2009 Macbook pro and the MINI DISPLAY PORT TO HDMI. Thanks in advance.
