Mini display port to HDMI problem

Hi everyone! I'm using a Macbook Pro Mini Display port to HDMI. I just hooked it up and it goes fuzzy for a second, then shows a split second of a mac desktop. While I was messing around in the settings I could see my windows appear in the breif second it works, and then the fuzz repeats every couple seconds. It's really annoying. Any help would be appreciated. I'm using a TIVA TV w/ a 2009 Macbook pro and the MINI DISPLAY PORT TO HDMI. Thanks in advance.

As you can see, the TV goes fuzzy then clear every second or 2. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

hey here is what you do:

well after doing the first steps that you did before to get the video image on your tv:

go back system preference

under the hardware items you will find the sound, click on it

you will have three options, the one you need to click is the output

if you have the tv connected before you start doing all these steps and you were able to see the image on your tv, you should have the option on sending the audio to your tv... for me on this step i clicked on Sony HDMI, but for you it will be whatever your brand name tv which i forgot and HDMI..good luck!

i watched your video, im just a regular macbook user, but i did notice you have an aptapter with the HDMI cable which i dont, my HDMI cable is connected directly to the thunderbolt.

just try to go to the system preference that you can find below on your screen

click over the display image

make sure the arregement is check on the mirror displays

and may be try detect display under the display section!

this could be due to the HDMI cable not being truly High Speed. Apparently this is a common problem when cables are not rated/ have a fake rating. I bought a SONY HDMI 1.4 Flat cable due to this reason and mine is working well .. tested to 1080p... sorry I do not know about this HD stuff 🙂

Solved. I have a Dell u2711 and had the same Problem. Macbook Pro 17" from 2010 with a Logilink male miniDisplayport to female Displayport Adapter. It worked only once and after I reconnected the cable with adapter the display would only turn on and then off again.

Before I reconnect the display to the macbook I pull the power cord from the display. (Actually I just switch off the multi socket power supply). It works like a charm. Every time.

I just go my Mini displayport to HDMI and it registers and works no matter what like it will show a background and if i swipe over to my launchpad it will do that to. the problem that i have is that 1. it's not even the same background that i have on my computer, 2. it won't show the actual windows that i have pulled up on the screen or videos. 3. in the launchpad it doesn't show any widgets or anything, just the backgroud of it. i don't understand why this is. if it's going to display something from the computer why would it not display everything?... if anyone has any ideas it'd be appreciated.

I have a Macbook with OS 10.6.8. I recently bought a Panasonic HDMI TV and want to hook my Macbook up to it. I was told to buy a mini display port to HDMI cable, which I did. I plugges it into my laptop and then into my tv. The laptop blinked a bit with a blue screen and then came back (I understand this to be normal), but nothing shows up on my TV. The screen is blank and reading no signal detected. On my laptop when I open the systems preferences and click on display it shows that it is connected to Panasonic TV. The mirroring option is selected and it is on resolution 1080p. I have tried other resolutions, but nothing happened. I have tried turning tv off and on...nothing. Same with laptop. It seems like the Macbook recognizes the tv, but the tv doesn't recongnize the Macbook. With some of the other posts, I wonder if the mini display port to HDMI cable will work with my MacBook? I went to local Apple shop and they said it should work and had no ideas for me. Anyone figure this problem out before? Thanks.

Do it in proper sequence. I am really upset by those posts and product reviews: "mine stopped working after 5 times". They simply do not follow procedure. Routine kills.

1. Power on.

THEN:

2. Attach DisplayPort converter cable to Thunderbolt output.

3. Search for display (if it did not find already).

In fact I had my TV hooked up first to the conversion dongle and then after powering up my Macbook Air I connected cable to the output. Lion seem to have discovered my big TV with no problems. In fact it nicely reported "Sony...".

I use some cheap DP-to-HDMI converter from some store ($9.99)... not near prices in some other stores for "quality product".

I think people assume that any order is adequate. Well not true.

I have figured out how to make it work. Under "System Preferences" go to Display. Then when that window opens, be sure to mark the check box in the lower left hand hand corner labeled "Show Displays In Menu Bar."

You should see an TV monitor in your system try in the top right corner of your computer screen. Click on the TV display then click "Turn On Mirroring". Once this happens your screen should appear on the TV monitor its connected to. But the picture may seem a little scretched. So you will need to click on the TV icon in the system tray again, scroll down the bottom and choose from one of the resolution options displayed. Im currently using 1200x800 and it works fine.

I hope this helps. This works 100% of the time.

Hi, i've tried most of the things on here but i'm a bit stuck now so after suggestions...

My Macbook Pro has always connected fine to my Samsung tv that I have in one room but recently I used it on a Panasonic tv in a different room. Now I can't get it to work back on the Samsung tv, it is definitely being recognised because Samsung is coming up as a sound output option but it is saying 'no signal' on the screen. I've tested it back on the Panasonic tv and it works fine so there can't be a problem with the cables.

I've tried resetting the VRAM (if that is the right name!), tried all the different resolutions, mirroring on and off etc but nothing. HELP!

i've got th latest 2011 macbook pro and i bought at gravis an official thunderbolt (or MDP i dont know whats the diffrence) to hdmi adapter and a hdmi cable from the apple store to connect my macbook to my samsung LCD TV.

I got the same problem as you, i plug i unplug i try it in each possibility but the only thing happens is that my macbook screen turns blue for a secound and thats all. my tv says no signal, no matter what.
thats just crap, gotta say this is the first time i'm really disappointed of apple perfomance. 😟

Have you tried this with power supply or without one?

Thunderbolt is powered interface. I think that MacBook battery may not be enough for some reason (even thougt TV does not have anything to do with power on MacBook). I noticed some loud fan sound as soon as I connected my MacBook Air to TV via Thuderbolt and macBook was getting significantlu warmer than usually.

I have spent quite some time reading through this discussion and trying all the suggestions but have had no luck at all.

We have tried to connect both our iMac and Macbook pro via minidisplay to HDMI to our new LG HDTV.

The TV reads as no signal and neither computer has any response. No flickers or blue screens, nothing comes up under display options in preferrences

We have tried our other smaller new Sony TV with no luck, also tried connecting to the main TV via HDMI to our Pioneer AV reciever.

Any other suggestions?

have a mini mac using hdmi to dvi which works perfectly. however when i try to connect a second monitor using the mini port to dvi there is no signal on that monitor and the monitor with the hdmi to dvi switches off and then comes back with a blue screen. also if i use one monitor and connect the miniport to dvi there is no signal.

my connections are authentic mac.
