HELP HELP - LOGIC PRO 8 NEEDS TO BE FORCED QUITED IN SNOW LEOPARD

As you can read by my post, i need some help. I have a MacPro with Logic 8 installed with the latest 10.6.1 Snow Leopard. When you boot & use logic Pro 8 its fine, but as soon as you try and quit the application it throws a paddy and you have to force quit it!

I have booted up from the leopard disc, repaired all disc permission etc and its still the same. I also have a MacBook with the same set up and its fine.

Mind you, disc utility did say that 2 SUID files were unrepairable when repairing the disc permisions, could this be the prob?

If you start logic with a new empty project and select 1 audio channel it quits..... If you select a new empty project and select 1 software synth it quits..... As soon as you select a custom template which has Stylus RMX, Battery 3, EXS24 and funnily enough FXpansions Guru it throws a wobbler as doesn't quit properly! If you close the custom template project first, then quit it THEN it quits. Thats what I have analysed so far but it is annoying, let hope they sort it soon unless its a prob with a 3rd party plug in....

Hi Guys,

I think I've found something that may be affecting the "Logic won't quit" issue...

Go to PREFERENCES -> SHARING.

There is a box there "backup all my settings on MobileMe".

I am a MobileMe user and have been using this option since Logic 8. Since updating to Snow Leopard, Logic won't quit properly (I get the spinning ball and have to force quit).

*Since un-ticking this box, I no longer have to force quit, the Logic quit command works fine every time at the end of a session*. I'd be interested to hear if this helps anyone else who is having the "Logic won't quit" issue under Snow Leopard...

Cheers,
Mike

Very useful discovery!

Could it be that Lo9ic is beachballing because it looks for a connection (and perhaps can't find it)? Or because it is uploading the project data?
Since you've used it for so long, I guess you know what happens when your stuff gets saved online. Does it take long, normally? Do you normally get any messages or progress windows?

Hey Erik,

I'm just hoping that I'm correct, and that I don't get any recurring of this issue! It could still come back in the next few days....

It's weird, prior to the update to SL I always used the "backup to MobileMe" option, so it's not something new for me, and I never had issues with Logic failing to quit.

I do use a Vodafone USB modem as my internet connection though, and it IS slow... so perhaps there's been a change to how Logic backs up to Mobile Me (does it now back up more content, or something like that, I wonder?) that means it hangs upon a quit command as it can't get all the info up onto MobileMe in a reasonable time.

Not sure!!

Anyway, I have had some replies from others on the forum who have also had the "can't quit Logic" issue, and they have said they don't use MobileMe or have that box ticked... so perhaps their issue is a different one.

It will be great to finally get it sorted though, one way or another!

If anyone else is experiencing the "freezing when quitting Logic" issue, please let us know about it - and tell us your Logic / (Snow)Leopard version, as well as any plugins you currently use with Logic.

Thanks everyone - hopefully we (or Apple, before us!) will solve this mystery one of these days!

Cheers,
Mike

I've discovered this problem too. SL 10.6.2 and L 8.0.2. I'm using NI Komplete 5 plugins.

I've had NI plugin windows open when I quit and it hung. Now that I'm aware of this and thats its happening to others I'll try closing them and see if logic still hangs. The NI plugs have been a bit dicey in SL. But maybe its something else since its happening to you all.
