When will i5 and i7 Quad Core iMacs actually be shipped?

I ordered the new iMac 27" Quad Core i7 yesterday. I am so excited to start using it in place of my iMac G5. My order says it will be shipped in "November" but the new optional Apple Remote is showing as being shipped "November 23" (is that a hint?) Does anyone have a clearer understanding of the likely ship date for the Quad Care iMacs. I am guessing that the delay is due to Apple not yet having a supply of these particular i5 & i7 Intel chips, are they being used currently in any other Macs? I don't think so. If you have any thoughts/info, I'd love to here from you.

Good luck to you Bradley and the family; don't worry, the kids will let you try it out after they go back to school in January.

My i7 machine ordered Nov 20th, shipped Nov 30th, has just landed in Victoria so I'm hoping it will be delivered today Dec 8th! Probably won't be able to use it though as it has gone through a couple of days of -25°C or colder weather in western Canada. Sure hope my UPS shipper keeps their boxes above freezing. I am going to let it take its time to acclimate to room temperature before even plugging it in.

Ha, ha...Trust me; if you eventually receive a perfectly-working iMac -- particularly if it is a 27" 2.8 GHz Quad Core i7 -- you won't regret it, and you will never look back to Windows PC's again; at least not on a personal use level. You may possibly have to work on Windows PC machines at work, but at home, your iMac will become your baby, and the "love" of your life. That is just how good these new Macs are. 🙂

i don't know the exact prices of the Alienware computers, but i remember they were really expensive, so I guess for 2000 you would only have the computer but no screen, mouse and keyboard (which you all have with an imac).

But back to the discussion: I ordered here in Gent and I don't bother calling them anymore, since they seem to have no information at all, so your guess is as good as theirs. I really hate it since i have no idea what to do, cancel it and order it today online directly from Apple?

Stefan, I can only speak for myself, but given the current problems, my advice would be to cancel and get a refund if possible, and then wait a few months, and place your order again next year. Hopefully, by next Spring, these issues will all be resolved.

If your reseller gives you a hard time, then you may have to settle for a store credit for however much you had to give them as a deposit for your iMac.

well I'm really thinking about cancelling it and wait for a while till we can get them just from the stores here, without all problems, or order online (but I don't like what I'm hearing about the DOA and cracked screens. And I had online orders that got here in very bad conditions really, I was lucky those were just dvds/records but I can imagine if they are as 'careful' with the imac as with those packages it could arrive damaged as well).

On the positive side: I was a bit unpatient about the delivery since my laptop had a problem that looked like the GeForce card was broken (confirmed by the store) but suddenly it seemed solved by itself after 2 weeks... Don't know what it was but pray it stays that way. I need a computer for professional use and was really counting on the imac to get here like they said end november to get my laptop repaired. I can use internet on my tv but no software like I need to have for my work.

I am just wondering did anybody else see this when thier iMac was shipping. This was on the UPS web site... "UPS HAS OBTAINED DOCUMENTATION AND SUBMITTED TO FOOD & DRUG ADMINISTRATION AND/OR DEPARTMENT OF AG/PPQ;AWAITING RESPONSE / BROKERAGE RELEASED SHIPMENT. SHIPMENT IS SUBMITTED TO CLEARING AGENCY FOR FURTHER CLEARANCE"

Just wondering, seems out of place to me.

As a reseller, of course I'm going to say not to cancel your order just to get it direct from Apple, if you can wait, support the local reseller.
I had my one customer call apple who assured him it will ship from apple in 2 weeks, this seem sto be thier plan, don't give stock to the resellers, make them look bad and sell direct.
He then asked why his order,(which he is keeping active even after I offered a full refund) from an authorised reseller would be such heavy delays. 'we are not responsible for resellers stock levels'
I love apple, but I feel I'm getting royaly screwed here. Even my order of new apple remotes now says mid Jan, when apple have 'ships in 24hours'

I'm loosing business and credability as I cannot get stock from a company that offers minimal wait time direct.

Will update here when I receive shipping notice or another ETA Change.

As an end user, and a former businessman myself, I am having a difficult time understanding this. Why would Apple want to make resellers look bad? I mean, the more Macs that resellers sell, the more profit Apple earns, right?

If, as you say, Apple now prefers to primarily sell direct, why even authorize Apple resellers in the first place?

Due to my own situation, I have also been forced to go through an AAR, and I dread thinking about how long it is really going to take for my new iMac to finally arrive, not to mention in what kind of condition it is going to arrive.

While resellers are obviously responsible for maintaining their own stock levels so that they never run out of a certain product, nevertheless, Apple is still responsible for helping resellers to maintain their stock levels. I mean, if Apple purposely delays shipments to resellers, they are responsible for how those delays affect the reseller, correct?

Until I began reading these threads a few weeks ago, I was totally unaware of the problems which apparently exist between Apple and AAR's.

Do you feel that it is ultimately Apple's intention to do away with Authorized Apple Resellers altogether, and just accept online orders, as well as purchases through the Apple Stores?

Just wondering.

Warren,

I think the only people that can answer your question accurately is Apple itself. Everyone that posts on these forums are end user customers just like yourself therefore they are not privy to any inside information. Last and not to be the forum police here but it's against the Terms of Use (look to your right) to speculate about Apple products, procedures and policies on these forums.

Roger

Hi Richard
I am buying through a reseller,
I ordered in early November and am still waiting.
I understand its not my resellers fault,
and I can also see what Apple is trying to do i.e Snub resellers so u buy direct,(and man their really doing a REALLY good job as well)
Im getting a decent deal from my local reseller, and I dont want to cancel the order, but man is it hard to sit around while my business loses out and its slowly starting to cost me more and more in jobs as each day passes, Which is almost equalling the discount i get through EEP.

Ive thought about buying a 21.5 inch in the meantime (direct from Apple)
but then, why should I have to?
Ive paid 3k for a something Ive had 2 wait over a month for, and have no idea of when ill eventually get it!!!

Its gone beyond a joke and everyday that passes, I lose out.

*WHEN INDEED WILL THE I5 & I7 QUAD CORE IMACS ACTUALLY BE SHIPPED !!!!!*

If their is delays with the iMac parts or whatever, why then did they have a Black Friday sale (knowing that these models are gonna fly out the door, and Why are people who order direct getting theirs already, And why have Authorised Apple Resellers in the first place if your not going to supply them with products they authorise them to sell??!!!

Well Played Apple. You truly know how to run people out of business i.e Resellers, Me, Others...
In the meantime, People will continue to Hack Dell
mini9's and Jailbreak iPhones for $$$ and not feel guilty about it.

When will i5 and i7 Quad Core iMacs actually be shipped?
