When will i5 and i7 Quad Core iMacs actually be shipped?

I ordered the new iMac 27" Quad Core i7 yesterday. I am so excited to start using it in place of my iMac G5. My order says it will be shipped in "November" but the new optional Apple Remote is showing as being shipped "November 23" (is that a hint?) Does anyone have a clearer understanding of the likely ship date for the Quad Care iMacs. I am guessing that the delay is due to Apple not yet having a supply of these particular i5 & i7 Intel chips, are they being used currently in any other Macs? I don't think so. If you have any thoughts/info, I'd love to here from you.

I myself have very bad feelings about the way we are treated, by buying through a reseller I consider myself an APPLE customer because it's not some cheap pc I bought it is something with the name Apple on it, here this means quality...
But my first Apple experience is certainly one of big frustration, and increasing every day! I had to postpone jobs because of this, I've sold my old PC and waited for this brand new apple and the reseller told me when I bought it oh probably 2 maybe three weeks to have it sir... I am waiting since 24th of october now and really getting tired of it. I feel badly treated and discriminated because so to see I am only second place customer, but I assure you it is an APPLE computer I ordered.
I will wait one more week and then I probably will write a letter to the consumer organisation here so they can take a close look how things are going.
I didn't have any idea that a simple 2T HD would make up for weeks of delivery delay!
The worst is we do not here one bit of explanation from apple, that is annoying.

I dont think its Apples intension to make resellers look bad or seem inferior, i was referring to my own situation in the eyes of the locals, one customer thought i was lying abou the order and the delays, he was worried that i never ordered his mac and have taken his $3000 and done 'god knows what' - i had to show him the order i placed, show him that i have indeed ordered the unit and that the ETA keeps changing.

If, as you say, Apple now prefers to primarily sell direct, why even authorize Apple resellers in the first place?

They are opening more and more retail outlets and also it seems they are opening mini stores inside other stores, the Myer in the QLD myer center has always had a huge Apple range, glossy white desks, very nice layout, but the last time i went in there, the desks had changed to the same wood style as the Apple stores, they have Apple branded TV displays and a single person with an Apple jacket talking to customers, I have also seen the brisbane JBHI have the same thing, without going into all the legal details, resellers are not allowed to use the Apple logo "" on its own we are only allowed to use " Authorised Reseller" etc but these displays seems to be Apple themselves, this is of course just speculation, and its not good or bad, they are still selling macs, and if it means having an apple trained staff assisting customers with their choice then all the better.
Due to my own situation, I have also been forced to go through an AAR, and I dread thinking about how long it is really going to take for my new iMac to finally arrive, not to mention in what kind of condition it is going to arrive.

well wether it comes from Apple directly or via a reseller, we all still get them from the same place 🙂

While resellers are obviously responsible for maintaining their own stock levels so that they never run out of a certain product, nevertheless, Apple is still responsible for helping resellers to maintain their stock levels. I mean, if Apple purposely delays shipments to resellers, they are responsible for how those delays affect the reseller, correct?

This is not normally the case, i think its a stock level issue, in this particular situation if Apple are shipping from their online warehouse then why not give some to resellers to sell?
if we couldn't get them from anywhere, or there are large delays with Apple directly it wouldn't be a drama, but a alleged 2 week wait even boasting 'order now in time for christmas' while we get ETA's they get further and further away isnt right in my opinion.

Until I began reading these threads a few weeks ago, I was totally unaware of the problems which apparently exist between Apple and AAR's.

As i said, generally its not a problem, its just with this instance they have a insanely popular product that rumours would have you believe has had hardware issues which could explain large delays but im not going to get into speculation and rumours here, there is plenty of websites for that.

I love Apple, I have for a long time and im very happy to be a reseller and service provider, but when i get customers accusing me of stealing their money because orders are now over a month old with an eta of another month.. i kinda get a little miffed.. :/

Do you feel that it is ultimately Apple's intention to do away with Authorized Apple Resellers altogether, and just accept online orders, as well as purchases through the Apple Stores?

Just wondering.

I think the main issue is this:

Apple need their resellers, but due to an actual shortage this close to Xmas, the stock they do have are bring prioritised for the Apple stores and online warehouse.
normally stock I order arrives in 3 days its only been the recent 27" macs and Apple remotes (I ordered a few for stock, found out 1 is shipping today 🙂

We just need stock 🙂

ill end ranting now 🙂

Hi Richard
I am buying through a reseller,
I ordered in early November and am still waiting.
I understand its not my resellers fault,
and I can also see what Apple is trying to do i.e Snub resellers so u buy direct,(and man their really doing a REALLY good job as well)
Im getting a decent deal from my local reseller, and I dont want to cancel the order, but man is it hard to sit around while my business loses out and its slowly starting to cost me more and more in jobs as each day passes, Which is almost equalling the discount i get through EEP.

Rumours are going around as for the delay which i wont go into, but it has never been this bad, I just dont know what Apple are doing, and why we are getting monstrous delays but direct sales are ok, though what I have head, if you order online, your not getting from AUS, or US stock, its coming straight from the factory, so i guess they are estimating?

I just dont know anymore.. will wait to see when others report getting their Macs

Thats great, I do understand the NEED to have it now Now NOW, specially if you can get better price from Apple.

Besides, as biased as this may seem, when i said support your local reseller, i wasn't referring to a multi million $ franchise, i was referring to the independents, the ones that actually give you after sales service (like me :P )

Good job on the iMac, hope they stick to the date!

I am sick and tired of waiting, next week I'll write testaankoop (consumer organisation) and tell them about it, these guys defend consumers. I still beleive we are entitled to some explanation from apple, next week I will have waited TWO MONTHS! this is unacceptable. I would not mind so much if everyone was treated the same way but to delay the deliveries to the resellers is not honest. I was told two to three weeks time till delivery and could accept two more weeks but two months is simply to much!
I feel very frustrated with this first Apple experience.
I simply don't see the point of having resellers when you're not treating them equally, I mean it is nicer to talk to a human person live than some website with no contact at all, that is the reason I went to a reseller, for their experience and professional way of handling things.

I'm not sure that ordering from the Apple website will be that much faster as they have changed their shipping time to 2 weeks for all 27" iMacs (used to be 7-10 days) and people are now having their orders pushed back as well. There are also rumors that this delay is because Apple is changing the graphics card to address the flickering issues.

If it's really a hardware issue does this mean that all 27" iMacs will encounter this problem at some point? (Just a matter of time?)

Dec 10, 2009 7:10 AM in response to fliwatuet

My Imac i7 possibly could arrive by mid-january which will be 3 months after they were first released, I think I will cancel my order with the Reseller, as there generally is a new model 6 - 8 months out from the last, but then the problem could start all over again.

By the time I get mine and probably enjoy it for about 2 months a much revised model will probably be released and really p * me off!

When will i5 and i7 Quad Core iMacs actually be shipped?
