When will i5 and i7 Quad Core iMacs actually be shipped?

I ordered the new iMac 27" Quad Core i7 yesterday. I am so excited to start using it in place of my iMac G5. My order says it will be shipped in "November" but the new optional Apple Remote is showing as being shipped "November 23" (is that a hint?) Does anyone have a clearer understanding of the likely ship date for the Quad Care iMacs. I am guessing that the delay is due to Apple not yet having a supply of these particular i5 & i7 Intel chips, are they being used currently in any other Macs? I don't think so. If you have any thoughts/info, I'd love to here from you.

OK, so slightly off topic: I too am waiting for my i7 iMac. Thinking about RAM: I have the 2x4GB dimms I put in my current (early '09 3.06) iMac, plus I still have the 2x2GB dimms that it came with. The new one will come with 2x2GB, so I have a bunch of possible configurations given the 4 available slots in the new iMac.
I was thinking of putting a 4GB dimm in each of the first two slots, and a 2GB dimm in each of the second two slots, for a total of 12GB. Are you saying I'm better off leaving the 4th slot empty? The resulting 10GB will still be (way) overkill, but I have the dimms already so I thought I might as well use them.

No as long as they are inserted with the slot positioned correctly it doesn't matter. When your machine arrives it will have instructions in the manual (you know that little book you never read 😉 ) that will show how it's supposed to be installed. If you want to look ahead of time here is the manual, look on page 40 and pay attention to the picture of where the slots are.

I ordered on the first day of availability from the online store, still says November. My remote, originally indicating a specific late November date, shipped today and is in Anchorage as I type this! Don't know what I will do with it till the iMac arrives. I am unhappy about the lack of a numeric keypad on the wireless keyboard, though; I went out and bought a nice bluetooth stand-alone numeric pad from (gulp) Microsoft, which works great with the Mac. Oh well. That and the remote will sit and wait.
