ACD 30" and PC Video Cards

Chris Auld created an excellent thread for the 20" and 23" Cinema Displays with PC Video Cards. I wanted to do the same for the ACD 30" and PC Video Cards.

There have been numerous posts on the topic of using the ACD 30" with PC video cards, but they are inconsistent.

Note: The Apple 30" Cinema display runs at 2560x1600 and requires Dual-Link DVI, which is not the same as Dual DVI.

I'd like to request posting specifics using this template ...

Displays GUI : yes @ 2560x1600 and lower
Comments : works flawlessly at multiple resolutions once Windows starts.

Whoops - sorry, i thought froogle had popped up some AGP cards, but when I did the search again, I only saw PCIX.

If you really want AGP, I have a used Asus V9999GE sitting on my desk. It does have the disadvantages of all those cards though - unclean boot screen without analog display hooked up, and despite the name its really only a 12 pipe card.

As far as other resolutions - the Apple monitor only supports 2560x1600 and 1280x800. However, all the nvidia cards can do scaling, so you can tell it to display pretty much any lower resolution you want. There's even a very useful mode to leave black borders on the sides when doing non-16x10 resolutions. So as long as you have a dual-link card, you'll be good with any res.

Hello all.
Will the PNY 7800 GT...not GTX run the apple 30 inch?
It is a dual link card.
Just asking because i saw a post above that says it has to be a GTX.

What about the new ATI X1800, X1600 series, has anyone try to run those w/ the Apple 30?

And what about this thread about overheating caues dancing pixels? Anyone has dancing pixel problems?

I have the evga 7800gt which does drive the display at its native res.

I would suggest heading over to the PNY site and doing a search for the apple 30 support under their knowledge base just to make sure, but I believe it should if it explicitly states it has dual link dvi support.
