27 inch imac problems universal?

Is every single new imac having the performance issues that keep being posted? Is there anyone that has received a new imac 27incher that has done thorough testing and has not encountered any problems? My fear is that this may be hardware based, so I canceled my order. If reinstalling a clean copy of Snow Leopard does not fix this issue (as it has not for many) that pretty much leaves only hardware and firmware as possible culprits. If its firmware, then everyone is in luck. If it is hardware... well that is why I canceled my order. I just did not want to deal with that.

So,anyways, back to my first question: Is this problem universal?

Cheers! & Thanx!

No. Obviously not. If every 27-inch iMac had problems, Apple Discussions would have tens of thousands of new topic posts in this category. Actually, Apple's servers would have crashed before that happened.

And if you look at some of the replies to the existing topics, you will actually see some people taking the time to log in and post that their iMac has no problems. But since most customers would not bother to post that their iMac is working great and they are happy, for every problem post you read, you have no idea how many people (100, 1000, 10,000) are having no issues.

So I think your odds for a positive experience would have been very very good.

On Nov 20 I posted a problem with my new iMac 27" i7, it was making a buzzing /high pitch sound constantly. After contacting support, and after waiting a few weeks the unit was replaced with a new one.

Great, all my problems were over, the odds had to be in my favor that another unit would be up to par and run smoothly for years. Well, chalk that thinking up to urban myth. After about 30-40 days of operating without a glitch, the new unit (hence the replacement for the previously bad 27" iMac) failed to respond AT ALL. It would start a power up, then do NOTHING. Black screen, no chimes, no loading up.

Worked with Tech Support (again!), reset power management on iMac, then tried to power it up, same result. I was offered the option to wait for another new unit (hence, third one) which would take at least 2-3 weeks, or I could take it to a APPLE STORE and have it looked at for repair. Chose the later option due to time constraints.

Apple store tech suggest it is the "Logic Board," and have ordered a new one. Two more days of waiting and it seems the "Logic Board" has arrived. Hopefully they will be able to get it up and running in the next day or so.

My business associate also ordered a new iMac 27", waited several weeks for delivery. Returned from a trip to China, excited to see his BRAND NEW SHINNY iMAC 27" computer sitting in his living room when he returned! Unpacked it, set it up, hit the power button, and ZIPPO, ZILCH, ZAPPO ---- NOTHING. He is now waiting for a replacement. Did I remember to say "weeks" again. This has really cost us a lot of productivity while we have waited for shipments and repairs. Honestly, we really want to use these units, it would just be nice if we actually could.

How many others out there are having the same issues? Please let us know...

Thanks...

I'm on my 4th machine, Which is about to be returned) and it's nothing at my house that is causing any of it. The imac i7 has serious issues. I've had dead pixels, dents on the lower left, loose bearings, scorching hot machines, flickering screens and split screens. If you don't have a flickering screen, I believe you eventually will if you had anything ordered early jan and back. If you have an IMAC that is too hot to touch on the upper left, it's not normal. Apple tried to tell me it was normal on machine 2, which ran at 165 degrees. No surprise machine 4 ran at 45 degrees. So much for being normal. I lost a 5,000 account because I sold my old mac and didn't have one to keep up with the fast pace work the client needed due to being without a computer weeks at a time.

I bought the 27" I7 iMac and am having problems. After trying 7-8 fixes I reinstalled the OS. Still a problem. I finally erased the HD and reinstalled from scratch. Still a problem. My problem is when i am surfing the web or watching a video(s), after a while the next page won't load or the next video won't load. The progress wheel just spins. Is this the same problem other people are having?

I purchased a base model 27" Core 2 Duo from the Apple store in Colorado Springs about two weeks ago. I used it for a week, and it was perfect in almost every way. Any complaints I would have are only nit-picks, but the aluminum area along the bottom of the glass didn't fit as perfectly against the glass as I would have expected on an iMac. Performance was fine. Video was brilliant.

I just decided that for the extra $500, the core i7 seemed like a good deal, so I returned it to the store. They gave me a refund, and I ordered a new 27" core i7 iMac. I would have purchased the core i7 from the store originally, had they carried it in stock. Since I dont' spend my time researching all of Apple's products, I didn't know it existed. Once I found out, I had to have one.

I haven't yet received it, but expect it to be free from defects. If it isn't, then I will return it and order another one. For the premium that Apple commands for their products, I put up with a lot less imperfection than I would for say, a crappy, plasticky Dell or HP.

A friend of mine bought a 27" base-model core 2 duo like mine, ahd his has the yellow screen issue, but performance-wise it's fine.

When you get a tracking number do you guys check if it is flying around all over the place, because this past wednesday I had my order being shipped and it was an order I place on dec 31. Strange thing is that my package is going back and forth from china to Germany then back to china then Korea then Germany then again Korea and now it is in transit again god know where it's going to show up now. All I know is that all that flying around is not good for a big screen, and the hardrive also the pressure cabin, that is if it is pressurerized, the product is taking a sustain amount of different altitude pressure, maybe this is the cause of the problem.

I think you are misinterpreting these references to Germany. Your package has never been in Germany. It's the paperwork likely sent electronically, regarding headquarters' clearance for your shipper/broker. It's a lot simpler than you have thought. The way I see it, it left Chine on Jan 29, arrived in/departed from Korea on January 29 and arrived in Poland in the evening January 29. It's doing well and no need to fret - it's coming!

Hi, what surprises me is you ARE A Professional! why on earth sell a working computer before your new unit is up & running Properly" it's a bit like not backing up!!
More than One replacement is Unacceptable, I would have gone for a Refund & chosen to wait for a later update of your chosen model.
Secondly I would have called Apple Corp & spoken with a Customer Service person, they are really helpful & can escalate an issue quickly & they DO follow up..Corporate-408.996.1010

Hello, I bought the 27-inch iMac on Thursday 28 January, and I am really very happy with it. The video response is extremely good, is quite fast and the important mass your screen is wonderfully beautiful!
I also had a little afraid to change my previous imac for 27-inch model because I had read some user reviews they had problems, but then I remembered that behind the iMacs is backed by a company like Apple and never would something you harm. Whenever I had problems Apple responded surprisingly well.
So, go ahead!

Welcome to the Discussions group.

I am sure there are others who feel the same trepidation, but even though most people post here because they do have a problem, you'll still find many posts of people happy with their new machines. I certainly can't guarantee you'll have a problem-free machine but the chances are good you will. In any event, your purchase comes likely with a 14 day return/replacement policy if you are not happy about something. You'll see a link when you make a purchase online to the policy that applies to your country. After that 14-day period you have 90 days free phone support and a year's warranty on the hardware. Apple is usually extremely good handling problem machines if yours is not satisfactory. You can extend the 90 day phone and one year hardware to three years if you purchase AppleCare. Strongly advise you to do that now or in the first year of ownership.
