Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac

My 27" is showing a yellow tinge when viewing on the bottom of the screen compared to the top?
This makes color corrections on my photos impossible. Anyone else has this problem? You can easily
see it on white or grey background (even in finder windows)

dino, way ahead of ya. My instinctual reaction was to call them, and I started browsing forums right after hitting send.

I got the whole runaround, reset PRAM, all that. I ultimately got the "bring it back to the store for repair" shpiel, citing that because it was over 30 days that a replacement was not "possible". I'm sure I could shake one loose in the store, but it's still a pain. Given that I reported the dead pixels by the second week, I'm confident I could get a swapped unit.

My biggest hesitation is that I'm going to go through the pain of offloading all my content, swapping the unit, and then it's worse / the same. I'd kinda like a few more posts in here to the effect of everything past week 10 or 11 is fine.

But then, how often do we run to the forums to tell people how great everything is going? 🙂

The Yellow Tinge is Permanent! In your case I would have to take a chance & go for a replacement. Yours is not acceptable. I think, with Luck you will get a better one. Why not try? If they allow you a swap out at the store, ask if you can set it up & test it out before you go home with it. Others were permitted to do this. But be prepared. The lighting in the Apple Stores plays tricks on you. And almost everyone left the store thinking their screen was perfect but it wasn't.So really take the time to test it out. Grey Bars, Full Screen Safari, Finder Window in Column View, Dead Pixels, Get it Online & do all the tests here:

btw, dreamstate, No One Is Way Ahead of Me! 🙂 L.O.L. I had to, sorry! Anyway, Good Luck!

ooh yeah, I'm sure that apple stores have lighting setup for customers not to see yellow tinge. What is that conspiracy theory or what? I'm holding off to buy new 27 iMac for over 2 months right now, we all are ****** because iMac are not perfect, but please be reasonable... Nobody in Apple store is playing games on ya 🙂

No one's talking about a conspiracy theory here, but 1000 gigawatts of halogen lighting reflecting off some VERY glossy screens doesn't exactly mimic most conditions in an office or at home.

So yes, it is quite difficult to tell whether or not a screen has the yellow tinge at the apple store. Some of the 21.5" I saw were still blatantly obvious, but others, like the 27" seemed 'acceptable' to me. You won't really know until you unbox that sucker and set it up at home though.

No one is talking a Conspiracy or Apple Playing Games. These are just the facts. People could not see it (Yellow Tinge or Color Variance)) in the Store Lighting, but at home in Lower Lighting, it was easily detectable. If you read through these posts, that statement has been made several times. Talk about putting words in someone's mouth. Jeez.

Yea, don't you love how people just jump in here for the first post & make false accusations. I'm going to go so far as to say the people who are posting they just got their new iMac & the Screen is perfect are Trolls as well. I've dared quite a few to Do my Grey Bar Copy & Paste Test & I never heard back from them again. I guess that's one way to get rid of them. 🙂

chippie, Thanks for speaking up here! We all appreciate it! And a lot of people fall into that same category, of not knowing. I did something different & probably not very smart. I bought the iMac on Black Friday & THEN I went around snooping to see if there was any problems with the product. Duh! Yea, hard for me to admit, but it's the Truth. And boy did I find out a lot! So I had to wait until Christmas to open it, but I was armed with my Grey Bar Test & Scrubbed clean my Glasses, and sure enough, a Yellow Spot. But you see, you have my current scenario (I am on my third). There is nothing wrong when surfing & using the iMac, but when I pop up the Grey Bars, I see a Problem. So for us, we have Perfect imperfect iMacs! 🙂 I'm assuming you don't see it either when using the iMac. So we a slight variation with no Yellow visibility. Also, not everyone out there is as brave as you. Most people that think there screen is perfect & refuse to do the Grey Bar Test. They are in Denial. Once again, Ignorance is Bliss. Thanks again. You are probably 100% correct Now go enjoy your Perfect imperfect iMac. 🙂

Well don't forget all store in US extend the return Policy for anything bought from Black Friday on to Jan. 18th. I bought it from B&H in NY paid only $1098. No Tax Free Shipping for Base 21.5" Model. Then I exchanged through B&H & got another iLemon. I had called Apple from the moment the 1st time I saw the Yellow on the first one. Reported it to Apple & was told to exchange with my reseller. But I made sure to tell Apple, I would want Apple to handle it if the 2nd was also defective. And of course, it was. So I wrote an email to S. Jobs asking why they are doing nothing to fix the 21.5" iMac & I see all acknowledgement for only the 27" issues. Mine had Yellow & Screen Flicker. I sent photos also, using my Copy & Paste Grey Bar Test. The next day I got a call from Corporate thanking me for my email & for letting Apple know about the 21.5" issues. She Apple had no idea the 21.5" had ANY problems. This is early January. So she said they wanted my Machine to do some testing & asked me if I would mind if they upgraded me to the 27" iMac with ATI & 1TB Drive. Of course I said no problem. 🙂 So basically I got a $1700. iMac for $1098. True & Miraculous story. So of course I Love Apple. They did right by me. Apple Get  For outstanding Customer Service. I don't like bragging about this, since others have complained & not received such great treatment. But my letter was factual. No whining or tell them what a great Customer I was & how many Apple Products I own. Just to the point. Do I believe Steve Jobs read my email? Of course not! But it went down the Chain & they took care of me with a follow up phone call every day through the entire painless process. They also allowed be tohold onto my 21.5" until the 27" arrived. I had to give them my Credit Card info & sign a Document. I had 30 Days to Return the 21 " iMac back or my Credit Card would be Charged. Very Fair!
