Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac

My 27" is showing a yellow tinge when viewing on the bottom of the screen compared to the top?
This makes color corrections on my photos impossible. Anyone else has this problem? You can easily
see it on white or grey background (even in finder windows)

You know. It's really hard for me to make that call. Forget the Grey Bars for a minute.
When you are in Safari on Full Screen, do you see any Yellow or major difference from top to bottom or side to side ? If you don't, It's a Keeper in my Opinion. As long as your not a Professional Photographer or Graphic Artist. That is how I made the decision to keep mine. The 1st & 2nd iMac I had, I could see the Yellow in Safari & all I kept doing was looking at that one spot, hoping if I looked at it long enough, it might go away. Of course It never did! 🙂 And I do know what a hassle this is returning & changing Screens. I would play with it tonight in a lot of different apps. Finder, Safari, iPhoto, etc..and then make your decision. It's hard for me to tell with photos. But not go back on what I have been saying, it like mine is not Perfect. We both know that! That has been the only point I have been trying to prove all along. Good Luck!

One more suggestion: have someone look at the screen while you use your computer and ask him if he notices anything wrong with the display. If he doesn't notice anything, keep the machine and enjoy it.

Of course he must not know about the yellow issue.

This is because once you know you can't help seeing it, but if you don't know, +depending on what you typically do with your iMac+ you might not notice it, even if (we all know) it's there.

I'm writing these lines on my 3rd iMac, the 4th being on its way from Shanghai, and after all this time passed on this thread I've finally come to the conclusion that (as Dino pointed out a few dozens of times 😉 ) I can live with this defect even if it's disturbing to know it's there. The alternative being moving to a Windows PC, I prefer to stick with OS X and its accompanying SW.

Needless to say, my future buying decisions with Apple will be _a lot_ more prudent, given the gap between marketing hype and reality (prices being unfortunately related to marketing hype, especially when paying in Euros ... 😟 )

P.S.: Mine is a 21.5", but I can assure you the yellowing patterns I've experienced are absolutely similar to the 27" pictures I've seen on this thread.

Hi guys.

Im on my 3rd Imac. First one was week 46. Had yellow tinge to lower half of screen. Second Imac (week 50) had flickering and tearing to the screen AND yellow half way down. (I sent videos of this to Apple).
They replaced this with my new week 08 imac.

Its not perfect, has 2 stuck pixels, but its better than the previous two.

I had the opportunity to have a second machine to compare with the new mac. My week 8 is about 75% of the brightness of the previous 2 Imacs.

Is this because of replacement screens, ie, from a different manufacturer, or has Apple reduced the screen brightness as this was causing the problems in the first place?

Guess what I did Dino...Last Saturday we had tax free day in VT. So I bit the bullet and ordered a new i5. Downgrade from my i7 but I also had a $100 coupon from my apple rep. So I got it for $1899 no tax($164). The screen is "good". No dead pixels like the last two, no dead isight pixels and it goes to sleep by itself. So I'm now happy. Got to now send out this i7 for my refund. The screen is not totally uniform but it's the best I've had. I'll do the copy and paste grey bars later for you to see. I will be keeping this one since I got $264 off it and there won't be a perfect screen. This one is the best though and I'm happy. Peace.

If (like me) you have been down the iMac multiple replacement path and are now considering a Mac + a Dell U2711 display (which has been getting rave reviews), then you'll be interested in these threads.

There is a photo of the monitor with the horizontal grey bars. The problem the poster has is more left to right than top to bottom, so it is a pity that he didn't post the vertical bars. Although the photo quality isn't great, some yellowing at the bottom is evident.

Here's the Dino test for your convenience:

Yes, it is noticeable, although I think the really bad iMac displays we were seeing a while back were worse than this.

Digging around in the thread, here is a post that compares the iMac 27" and the U2711 side by side.

One quote all you folks on here will enjoy: "Out of the box the imac 27'' has the edge in every way but fiddling with things I think I could mirror the imac display easily with the right settings. They appear to be the same panel. Both panels need some tweaking."

The thing that will stop me getting the U2711 is the anti-glare coating that it uses. This is getting a lot of flak in various forums. On white displays you will see a sparkly effect. Obviously this is a trade off against the glare of a glossy screen, but I'd rather control the lighting and not deal with the AG effect.

Dino, there is no noticeable speed decrease for what I'm doing. I had the i5 to begin with and almost think the i7 seemed more buggy and slow. I had two i7s before going back to this i5. I could be wrong but both i7s just did not seem to run as fast. Did not do any heavy processing though except for a video compression and it seemed the same to me. I am finally happy and ready to enjoy it. Thanks for everything man.

jacqueline & rebootnow, There are no perfect Screens being made. So if you don't see any Yellow or Color Variance when surfing Full Screen in Safari or any other Apps, you might want to keep it. Jacqueline, IMO, yours looks better than rebootnow's screen. But if you keep on swapping & getting screen replacement's, I'm sorry to say, you may get a screen that is much worse. And if you decide to keep it (for now). Call Apple & let them know you still have issues & you'd like to wait it out for a later point in time when they do have a perfect fix. Just my little opinion.

OK... so I have a question to all of you. I just bought a new iMac i7 - btw smoking machine - and with it a 2nd 24" cinema display. The iMac's display looks beautiful, no signs of any yellow issue, but my 24" cinema display is a different issue. I have them sitting right next to each other and the cinema display has a heavy yellow tint compared to my iMac screen. They are both set to the same color profile. I have already returned the first one, but the replacement unit has the same issue. I tried to calibrate and change color profiles but can't even get close. Is it possible that my local shop just has a whole batch of faulty units?
