Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac

My 27" is showing a yellow tinge when viewing on the bottom of the screen compared to the top?
This makes color corrections on my photos impossible. Anyone else has this problem? You can easily
see it on white or grey background (even in finder windows)

THanks for the replies guys (Dino, I was counting our your opinion too..)

Sometimes i look at it and cannot see it much. Think that my eyes/mind are playing tricks on me.
Then I look at it again and I see it clearly. Yellow tinge!

I can also see what it looks like a fingerprint on the bottom right of the screen...

This is bothering me. I love the computer. Just wish I could get a fully working one...

Don't want to settle with a mac mini now, though it looks like my only choice...

I received a week 12 iMac 27" i7 replacement for my previous i7, which had already had an LCD/cable replacement. The new iMac screen is exhibiting the same yellow tinge and gray bar across the bottom as my other two screens ( http://www.designeq.com/imac/index3.html)

I don't believe that Apple is able to get control over this screen issue even though many of us have other large LCD screens from Apple that do not exhibit these anomalous characteristics.

Because of this I am not going to attempt another screen or computer replacement at this time. I feel zero confidence that I will get a good screen. Instead I am going to try to get a commitment from Apple to have the screen replaced at a later date when they finally get a handle on this problem. I have AppleCare so I should be able to have this done any time in the next 3 years.

In the meantime, I need to use this computer for work and will live with the problem until they have a solid solution. So one of the two I have will go back and I will keep the other one.

Howard, my week #12 replacement arrived with a crushed box as can be seen a page or two back. So, I sent it back (and that one was probably perfect!) It'll probably take a week and a half to get the replacement (week #13?)i7. At this point, I can only hope for a decent screen. None are perfect-some are better than others. I returned my 3rd iMac for hardware issues. The best screen I had was the second (week 6) which wasn't perfect. I am hoping for a pretty good screen. The horizontal gray bar was never a problem for me. Unless there is a total revision of this model, I think the screens will not be perfect. I'm using my 1 year old Samsung LCD 16:9 23" screen with my old Vaio. There is no yellow but doing the gray bar test, the top is slightly different form the bottom. I would have never noticed that. But again, this monitor was $199.00.

Hi People,

this morning I took a picture of my iMac and my samsung LCD Screen.
Both with a white background.

These are the resuts:
iMac 21,5:

Samsung:

What do you think?
In my opinion neither are perfect.
The samsung, which I never thought had any issues has got several instead.

This is a reminder of how my iMac did with the grey bar test:

I am very much confused on what I should do with my imac....
I bought it online (fnac.it) and can return it within the fist 10 days.

Your view on this would be highly appreciated

Enjoy your iMac...It is lately been my feeling that unless there is a gross defect, the screens are fine. The technology isn't perfect. No dead pixels? Nice color when viewing normal images?, relax. I am expecting a replacement iMac for hard drive issues. Some of my faulty iMacs had more yellow than others. The less yellow, the better but barring a total revision in technology (maybe using older fluorescent technology), there will be issues.

If we put up with screens like these how can we expect things to improve? Consumers have the power to vote by returning their items and getting a refund. No sale until the item is really what I am told it is - in this case the 'ultimate display'. Quality control should rest with the manufacturer. We are being treated like idiots - I can't believe how many people are putting up with this.
If we need macs until they get this sorted there are used ones, and a lot cheaper, available on Ebay.
In the meantime, let's stop feeding the delusion.

Renzopanta--thanks for sharing the images. My reaction is twofold: first none of the screens I have seen on the iMac are "perfect". That is true for other brands and even my 30" cinema display which I did not know until I tested it. Second, the screens appear to be better in recent weeks. It is in the eye of the beholder what is acceptable, but given the fact that my older ACD had some of these symptoms and I did not even know it until after calibration tells me that the computers can still be used and enjoyed if their defects are not readily apparent in daily use.

with my first iMac I was super happy the fist few hours using it
then, I started noticing the yellowish part on the bottom. Which was confirmed by my gf.

That led me to this forum which I am sure affects quite a lot what people think about their screens.

I would not give a **** about colour variation - darker grey on the top than on the bottom.

What bothers me is that I can notice a yellowish tinge on the bottom. Not 100% of the times I am using the iMac, but often enough to be bothered by it.

I see a long line of people queuing up at the BMW dealership returning their ultimate driving machine. Oh, that's right. No refund on car purchases. Maybe we can all pursue the lemon law. This Bummer ain't no ultimate driving machine.

Apple did not force you to buy anything. If it doesn't live up to your expectation, return it and move on. Go buy a Dell and be happy with it.

It seem folks are hung up on the ultimate moniker. Look at it this way. It is true in the marketing sense. It's all marketing afterall. First, there's no one else selling a comparable all-in-one PC with the same resolution and built material. Secondly, no one sells another OSX OS in the same configuration. So, it is the ultimate computer with the ultimate display. When you find another all-in-one that is better than the iMac, by all means file a complaint with FCC for false advertising.

hamproof, I agree. My point is one has to be realistic. Of the 3 I had, two displays weren't bad. There were hardware issues. I was trying to say that I would rather have a working iMac than a Dell (North American tech support based extended warranty is something like a $511 option). There may be a revision to the iMac but I need a computer now. I do insist that it work correctly and have a pleasing display (no dead pixels, etc) But looking for color uniformity perfection is not in the plan. How many LCD TVs have various non uniform issues? My Sony Bravia has plenty. Still, it has a great picture.

Well, what to say...
I'm really confused here!
I 've had a refund after my first Imac was returned to Apple. They even offered me a 15% on top of what I had paid for it. This was an Imac produced in Dec 2009 week 51. Then I've waited for the refund to be credited and got back to Apple since I had read about all issues being solved. This new Imac I've received ( March 25th production week 12 ) is very silent, no brightness buzzing or Isight camera pixel but it has a yellow tinge on the bottom of the screen. I've called the customer service and they've proposed to send me a new one. I am very unpleased with Apple and I think that this is going to be the last try for me. If the next is going to have whatever fault, I'll go for a refund and shall wait for some new technology.

Yes I saw that. I wouldn't have accepted that either. Regarding the screens, it's a trade off. Some screens, IMO, are definitely not usable. Screens like mine and others I've seen posted are "usable" but not desirable. In other words, they don't keep one from actually being able to do work.

Even though I'm a photographer, I can work around my screen defects for the time being. I need to use my computer and I've lost countless hours already dealing with this issue via following the forums, having repairs done, swapping computers, transferring files, etc. So I've decided to work with what I've got for now.

But Apple clearly (and finally) acknowledges that there is a screen issue. They have been accommodating to people as reported on this forum, although only to a certain extent. At a certain point they have refused to provide any more replacements even though people's screen problems continue.

This says to me that the problem is not currently under control. I think they are struggling with LG to get consistent quality and they will have this problem to contend with in spades when they release their stand-alone 27" monitors this summer.

I'm hoping by then they will have the problem sorted and and at that point I will request another screen replacement.

As I mentioned earlier, many of us have other monitors from Apple that do not have these problems. My 20" ACD was excellent (until my cat chewed through the cable. You can't just replace the cable with this monitor--the whole thing needs to go into the shop).

So the trade off is "what can you live with to get work done until you have confidence this problem can be properly repaired?"

I understand the sentiments of people on this forum who don't want to keep their bad screens and "reward" Apple for bad products. At the same time, this computer is excellent in all other ways and is a work-horse. Since I don't have another decent alternative, I'm keeping mine but will follow the strategy I outlined above.

I've been following this thread since the beginning. I've ordered my first iMac 27 on Jan and after 3rd replacement I've asked for a refund. All had yellow tinge and otherwise all were perfect.

All I need is a better display (with more resolution) than the one I'm using right now (23 inch 1920x1200 Philips). All 30 inch displays are using three-four years old technology and they are expensive. So iMac seemed like a good upgrade. But after the purchase I kept looking at bottom right side for the yellow tinge and it wasn't acceptable for me.

A short investigation on internet showed that all affordable high resolution displays have some degree of color uniformity issues. The more the resolution the higher chance these issues visible with naked eye. Since I couldn't find a better altarnative for Imac I've decided to wait a bit more.

This was my first apple experience, although it was not a successful purchase I'm still positively surprised by Apple support, Mac OS, magic mouse, wireless keyboard and silent all-in-one computer.
I'm really hoping that Apple can resolve this issue soon so I can replace my 5 years old computer.
