Yellow tinge from bottom to top of the screen, 27" iMac

My 27" is showing a yellow tinge when viewing on the bottom of the screen compared to the top?
This makes color corrections on my photos impossible. Anyone else has this problem? You can easily
see it on white or grey background (even in finder windows)

It gets worse and worse!
Just recieved my 7th imac..
27" 2.66 Quad core:- Well that's what it said on the box...
When I opened the factory sealed box, I found a used 24" imac inside!!!
A mighty mouse with no batterys, A wireless keyboard still switched on, 10.5 osx, and finger marks all over the glass.
I turned it on to find the previous owners home adress and phone number on the accounts list, and to top it off, it has a dead pixel and a yellow screen!!!!

You couldn't make it up....

I have one arriving here Monday, I have my fingers crossed. Do you have a link to this acknowledgment, I would love to have it on hand if mine arrives with the problem.

Apple apparently made a public statement about it to Gizmodo ( http://gizmodo.com/5478509/the-conclusion-to-the-faulty-imac-saga-the-beginning- of-the-fix?skyline=true&s=i) but I was more referring to the fact that they are, with a few unfortunate exceptions, handling complaints about the yellow tinge without question.

When complaints about yellow tinge and flicker first started showing up, Apple was silent about the whole thing and it was hit and miss whether they would allow you to return your computer. They finally released some firmware patches for the flickering problem, the second of which thankfully seemed to solve it. But they have no solution for the yellow tinge other than replacement.

But at least if you call them with a yellow tinge complaint, they will now almost always immediately offer you an LCD or entire computer replacement. You don't have to fight with them about it. I consider this an implicit acknowledgment of the problem.

Whether their "solution" actually solves anything is a different story however.

Good lord! I hope you photographed everything.

Thanks Howard and ain't that the truth. I wish they would just tell consumers where they are at with this. It would save them alot of money shipping iMacs back and forth and ultimately losing new and old Apple users. I love Apple products and would wait *and buy* even if they said it would be another month or two. Now I have to risk it and hope I get a good one and go through lots of hassle if it isn't. Bob

Hey All,

just got a new iMac... noticing a little bit a yellow gradient. If those who've been following this thread all along would take a look at my photo and give me a gut reaction that would be great.

Taken with a Nikon D90 - 50mm lens - 5 feet back - 100% pitch black room. No post processing.

How does this stack up to what everyone is seeing?

I've been following this thread since the beginning. I've ordered my first iMac 27 on Jan and after 3rd replacement I've asked for a refund. All had yellow tinge and otherwise all were perfect... I'm really hoping that Apple can resolve this issue soon so I can replace my 5 years old computer.

Sorry things didn't turn out better for you. Hoping your existing machine performs well until you decide it's time to try the iMac again.

Depending on one's requirements (e.g. demanding colour corrected work for publications or professional photographer etc.), I think another option for some people is to rely on their AppleCare to have a minor yellow tint problem addressed when this problem is completely eliminated (assuming that happens in one to three years). In the interim, they still have a beautiful machine to enjoy. Of course if there's a severe problem, one wants that replaced or repaired now.

Looks perfect to me. As did my nephew's new 27" i7 that I saw for the first time tonight up close and personal. I have followed this thread from day one so I do know what to look for, and his has none of the issues itemized in this forum. I didn't do Dino's test (since it wasn't my machine), but it certainly looked much better than my 4-year old 30 in cinema display. Also, I did notice that it shipped from Union City, CA. It was a custom config, ordered online. Maybe they are assembling them in US now??
