I've had my iMac for about 3 weeks now and didn't notice the yellow tinge until just recently. I was looking at a white website full height of the screen and did a quick google search to find this thread.
It sounds like the tinge varies. I'm on the fence whether to get a replacement unit. Mine doesn't seem bad, but it is there. I'm also too busy until January to deal with it.
Does the replacement have to be rquested within a specific amount of days after purchase? I would think getting it replaced later there might be a better chance of the replacement unit actually not having the issue. Or like someone pointed out with different LED technologies, will it always be there to some extent?
Totally with you about not noticing right away. I didn't notice until I read about the problem, thanks me. But when looking at full height white or the grey bar test (please don't delete that link), it is obvious.
Apple support told me that in the US you have 14 days from time of purchase at the store or from delivery to request a replacement, after that it is a free repair at a local Apple store under warranty during the 1st year assuming they approve it, not sure how that works. The repair at the store should take 3-5 days after the parts arrive. Applecare buyers can get an in-home service and repair visit to replace the screen or whatever is needed.
I used the Display preference setup in expert mode to make adjustments and set the white point closer to 7300 which is more blue than yellow and it helped. There is still a difference from top to bottom. I don't do color work though so your mileage may vary.
