iTunes 9.0.2.25 skips during playback

I'm getting the same issue on 9.0.3.15 32 bit on Windows7 Professional (clean buil with my media on and internal drive).
Just tried the previous post (to change the default sound settings) and 3 songs later it seems to have done the trick.

I'm getting the same issue on 9.0.3.15 32 bit on Windows7 Professional 64 bit. At least I think it's 32 bit iTunes. I tried to download the 64 bit version of iTunes from the 64 bit page, but it installed in C:\Program Files (x86) (only parts of the miniplayer installed in C:Program Files) and web posts (and the Apple website) indicate 64 bit iTunes is only available for Vista (and perhaps only Vista Home at that).

Regardless, I followed the instructions as follows: Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback Tab -> Right-Click Speakers/choose Properties -> Advanced Tab ->

I tried both 24bit, 44100 Hz and 48000 Hz Studio Quality setting under Default Format. Neither really helped that much - still getting some skips - sometimes a lot of skips, especially with Apple lossless files.

My iTunes xml and itl files are all stored on my C: drive, but the actual music (mostly Apple lossless and 256 AAC) is stored on a Seagate Blackarmor 420 NAS running in Raid 1 on a gigabit wired network through a Dell PowerConnect switch.

I'm using around 1-3% of the cpu and 0.10% of my network bandwidth so anyone responsible would probably agree that the hardware isn't the issue...

Windows says motherboard sound card drivers are current. So that would lead me to believe it is an incompatibility between Win 7 Pro 64 bit and iTunes. Why would that surprise me?

I had none of these skipping issues running off any hard drive setup (even a USB hard drive) under XP on a 4+ year old pentium.

I guess if I used an Mac... Oh yeah, then I couldn't watch anything written in Flash...

All I want to do is keep my music in one place and my iPod synched.

Would someone responsible at Apple please look into this, post a real answer and a real fix to the Apple website in a manner that is easily accessible?
