My Magic Mouse keeps losing its connection. Has any one else had this happen to them. I reapplied the update and had gone through the set again but the connection repeatedly is lost. Luckily I still have my wired mouse plugged in or my IMAC would be useless.
I have tried the solution listed here and it has not helped my magic mouse loses its bluetooth connection continually. (several times a minute) Does anyone have any other suggestions?
A very helpful thread. I'm sure that many users aren't having many problems, but my past experience with wireless mice suggests that disconnection issues due to low power, inconsistent networks, and hardware constraints can make the way for an unpleasant computing experience. The basic features of the Magic Mouse are impressive, but I still haven't found anything that beats a powered Kensington trackball.
Try logging in as a different user. Using the user that I installed MM was terrible. I logged off that user and logged into another user and things work fine now. And now when I log back on with the 'bad' user, things are fine there too.
I found that my Magic Mouse started losing connections only after I switched the batteries from 1.5V regular AAs to rechargeable ones that turned out to be only 1.2V. Everything worked better after putting regular 1.5V batteries in the Magic Mouse.
I have been having a similar problem. The mouse was first becoming very slow and sluggish and then I would eventually get disconnected or it would hang.
I noticed this happens a couple of minutes after my Time Capsule started backing up my disk and if I stopped the backup then the mouse would return to normal after about 30 seconds. I tested this a little by manually starting the backup to my time capsule and sure enough the mouse starting getting slow again after a few minutes and return to normal once the backup was stopped again.
So for now I am manually controlling my time capsule backup schedule while I hunt around for a cause and solution.
FWIW, I had the same problems with my Magic Mouse and the trick with deleting the .plist file seemed to work. Also, I think part of the problem might be caused with an iPhone (or other bluetooth device) interfering with the mouse. I had my iPhone sitting on the desk with Bluetooth on (but not connected to anything) and it was closer to my computer than the mouse, which may have been a source of problems.
This has been a horribly annoying problem for over a month now, and Barry's solution is so far working for me. I agree the magic mouse is extremely buggy if not setup correctly. Come on, Apple.
Also, I always work with my iphone and magic mouse next to each other, and have since turned Bluetooth off on my iphone to avoid any problems.
Changing the batteries from rechargeable to 'normal' batteries fixed it for me. I made the mouse a favorite, too ... but that didn't help me, at least. I changed batteries and immediately it worked again. (without having to look for it). New batts and go!
Basically I discovered the common denominator in all my connectivity issues was a slight jolt of the mouse, whether it was me even slightly lifting the mouse up and putting it back on the table, using the 'flicking' capabilities of the mouse etc. I jammed a bunch of blue-tac between the batteries and it seems to hold them in place firmly, I haven't had any problems since.
I had the same issue - every time the mouse was lifted off the desk as I was using it, the jolt would cause a disconnection. I've wedged a little piece of paper between the batteries and haven't had the issue since.
Problem are the positioning of the batteries! If they are not inserted correctly or shift a bit during transport, the connection gets lost. Just noticed it while reading the post, I had constant connection loss suddenly, opened up the mouse and saw that 1 battery was not exactly where it should be. Positioned it correctly and now my mouse is working as it should.
I moved the mouse to the left of my keyboard - further away from wall and electric plugs etc. and I have not lost the connection since (was losing it every five minutes or so before moving it). Tried jerking it in the left side and it didn't seem to make a difference - it stayed connected. When I put it back the other side - lost the connection almost immediately!
Daft!
I was having a problem with my MM as well. It was dropping the connection regularly, the pointer would stop mid screen whilst I was moving the mouse, it was difficult to accurately click on an action etc
Tried all the fixes that have been suggested in this thread but no improvement.
The guys at the local Apple store 🙂 did some research and found that (on a MacPro at least) there is a problem with the aerial placement on the Bluetooth transmitter/receiver which affects the signal. They re-wired it using one of the wireless aerials (which apparently there are 2 of and more powerful or better positioned) and it works great now. It now responds from meters away and I haven't lost connection since then. Took them about 1/2 hour to do and they didn't even charge me. Thanks to the guys @ Forest Computers in Hope Island, Gold Coast Australia - they deserve a plug !!
It hasn't affected connection to my Airport base station either although that is only about 3m away from the Macpro.
I use a MM with a macbook pro on as a docked workstation setup. I also use the bluetooth keyboard. The magic mouse problem has been driving me in sane as it will constantly loose connection.
The plist deletion made no difference
It has always been a favorite so that makes no difference
I turned off bluetooth on my iphone, no difference
I thought it might be battery related, so I just today went and got the Apple rechargable batteries..mostly cause the specs were great..if they really last 10 years, and $30 for 6 batteries and a charger isn't too bad a price.
Put the new, fully charged apple batteries in, connection drops still.
I just put paper in the batter compartment as others had mentioned above in the time it took to write this post no dropping (as I knock on wood). I also notice on my mm that the batter cover seems a bit loose, so maybe this is the issue with mine.
Just wanted to add my thoughts in on what might be working...if the connection drops again I'll post again. As a side note, the keyboard has never once dropped.
I was having the same problem and the piece of paper in the battery compartment did the trick. For now I am convinced it's an issue with the battery not having the right contact on the "+" side. I love the MM but think this is a pretty sad engineering design problem. I would expect more from Apple.
