Wirless Keyboard does thisssssss

My Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard for my iMac G5 just today has been not working properly. It repeats letters at random times like this: helloooooo. At that point, the keyboard loses the connection, and I just wait there until the connection returns. At that point you can delete the extra letters, until it does this all again. Can anybody help me? (The batteries are fresh btw) Thanks.

Hello Jack:

When you get a chance, post your configuration information (accomplished in the preference pane on the right)>>>>>>>>

That way, everyone will have information about your computer.

I had exactly the same problem with a wired KB. Since it was still under warranty, I called Applecare. They promptly sent me a new one - all I had to do was return the old one in a prepaid container.

I have this problem, as well.

15" Powerbook (Aug 2004), 1.5GB RAM, OS X 10.4.2, all the udpates, etc. From time to time, the Wireless Keyboard picks a key and it "sticks" for several seconds (or until I turn off the keyboard), repeating that single keypress dozens of times.

I've updated firmware, both on the Bluetooth module and the Keyboard, to no avail. I understand that it could be interference from the 802.11b traffic in the room, but that almost seems absurd.

I'm also using a Logitech MX900 Bluetooth mouse, which never gives me any trouble.

Has anyone found the cause (or, at least, a solution) to this chronic "stuck key" problem afflicting Apple's Wireless Keyboards?

I was having the same problem with my keyboard for several days but it has been better now for about a couple of weeks. All I did was reposition my computer so that the line of sight between the keyboard and wireless mouse was a little bit better and then I did have the screensaver engaged in the Energy Saver control Panel once I disengaged ALL energy saver functions It has been a lot better if not completely cured. Don't know why this is the case but it has seemed to work let me know if makes a difference for you

I was having the exact same problem. My keyboard would stick on a particular key, and then I would lose the connection. I put in new batteries, as I thought the old ones might be low, and now I cannot get a connection at all. When I try to locate Bluetooth keyboards it does not show up. And YES--they keyboard is swtiched on!

I'd be really grateful if anyone can help me with this. My keyboard is still under warranty, but I don't have Applecare, so I don't want to call them up.

So does mine. More often than not I get as many as 15 stutters from a single key stroke, includingggggggg the delete key when I am trying to fix something I just typed. It is behaving uncharacteristically well right now for sommmmmmme reason. I have just now experimeeeeeentally opened mail to see if it would influence the behavioooor. Anottther characteristic when it is behaving iits woooorst is extremely long lag times between typing and the leeeeeeeeeetters appearing on the screen. I have just closed Mail, As you can see, eeeeeeeven the space bar stuuuuuuutters, and, apparrrrrreently, mail has no influence. The keyboard is just out of warranty and it was in use for about 8 months when this problem developed and has been getting progressively worse. The keyboard on the powerbook, thankfully, has no problems. I am annoyed and unimpressed witth the behaviour of the wireless keyboard and mouse, too.

Same deal for meeeeee. It is really annoying. I have the same Apple Wireless Keyboard (bluetooth), and it started this (key repeat) thing about a month ago. I've changed the batteries--nothing. My Logitech bluetooth mouse works fine, could they be interfering? It is the only other bluetooth device I have, and I'm thinking that they might be interfering. However, the mouse never is affected, only the keyboard's repeattttt.

I don't think it's a bad batch. I've tried three different keyboards since they were first introduced. In my case, the problem seems to be related to the distance from the iMac. If the keyboard is farther than about 12" from the iMac the problem seems worse. However, this isn't a guarantee. (right now, for example!) Sometimes the angle between the keyboard and iMac seems to be a factor.

Gee, ~Clint —

What you've described just shouldn't be happening.

Did you order your iMac G4 with an internal Bluetooth card, or are you using a D-Link DBT-120 Rev. B2, B3, or B4 (or other) Bluetooth USB adapter?

Do you have an active AppleCare Protection Plan ( APP)? If so, have you contacted AppleCare directly? I'd guess so, since you're on your 3rd keyboard. What troubleshooting have you done? Have you installed the latest Bluetooth software and firmware? Has anybody tried replacing the Bluetooth card/adapter?

Dean
