iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found - QTCF error popup - can't open iTunes

Hi, whenever I try to open iTunes I also get this message:

iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point QTCF_CFUniCharGetUnicodePropertyDataForPlane could not be located in the dynamic link library QTCF.dll

I've tried uninstalling iTunes then reisntalling, uninstalling Quicktime, rebooted and I still get the same problem. I also moved QTCF.dll into iTunes. Still get the same error. I also tried a system restore, and I STILL get the same error.

I tried removing everything and turing off my antivirus and I still get this message and my iTunes does not work. Also when the message comes on it will not go away until I re-start my system. Any help out there on this???

Thanks.

Help, I have the same problem. Upgraded to latest itunes today and now can't get anything done. I see: the procedure entry point QTCF_CFUniCharGetUnicodePropertyDataforPlane could not be located in the dynamic library QTCF.dll.

I ran a search in Vista and found QTCF.dll in QTSystem (C:Programs/QuickTime)

Now what?

That one's in the correct place, geoff.

On rare occasions (precisely one confirmed case), I've seen this caused by a damaged Apple Application Support (AAS) dll. (Modern iTunes and QuickTime versions and Safari 4.0.4 for Windows require a properly functioning AAS in order to work correctly.

Doublechecking something before proceeding on that tack. Do you have a 32-bit version of Vista? (I presume that's the case, because your QuickTime seems to be in the Program files directory rather than the Program files (x86) directory, but I figure it's better to be safe than sorry.)

🙂 Thanks, geoff.

With your one, we'll try uninstalling and reinstalling both QuickTime and Apple Application Support, taking a few additional explicit precautions along the way. For 32-bit Vista instructions, see the following post:

SBMHAW! (Still banging my head against wall)

I went through the instructions step-by-step and still got exactly the same error when I tried to open Quicktime. Pointless to go the next step and re-install itunes, right?

Any other thoughts? I'm going through itunes withdrawal!

... I've just speant 10 minutes searching for a post that turned out to be in this actual thread ...

Returning to the possibility that something might have gone wrong with the search for QTCF.dll, geoff.

Doublechecking something. On a Vista box, when I search for a file like that, I open "Computer" and type QTCF.dll in the Search box. When it tells me I can't find it, I click Advanced, select the "search hidden, non-indexed and system files (may be slow)" box, and then wait for an eternity until the green progress bar up on the top of the "Computer" window has completely disappeared.

Did you do that? (Just doublechecking to make sure the search actually completed for you ... I've seen an incomplete search catch out at least two people with misplaced QTCF.dlls before in this way.)

It was found in c/program files/quicktime

I should mention that I also have an F drive plugged in to my laptop which has an older version of itunes on it (which also won't load). This search found the file in the f/itunes file.

I am currently in "itunes deleted from computer mode" while we figure out the solution. What should I do from here?

Is that version of iTunes currently showing as installed in your Uninstall a program control panel?

Is the F drive a detachable drive, geoff?

If so, try removing it from the PC and reinstalling iTunes. If you get an error message on the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text please.)

If the install goes okay, does itunes launch without the QTCF.dll error?

(Checking to see if there's a registry snarl-up and if iTunes looks for the wrong dll when that drive is attached. It might not come to light during an install with that drive attached.)

Crikey ... give yourself a pat on the back, geoff. I'm not sure I'd ever have checked on that possibility off my own bat.

Yeah, it might be best to delete any stray iTunes (or QuickTime) program files from the F (leaving any content files in place). Now we've got a QuickTime and iTunes installed on the C, the registry entries will be all wrong for the running of that alternate installation. (So the program files will just be taking up space for you.)

🙂 Glad you've got things working again.
