SD card in the cd slot

I just did a very stupid thing!!!

I wanted to upload some photos from my SD card, and I accidentally put it in the cd/dvd slot instead of in the SD slot. Now it's stuck there, and I can't get it out - anyone knows if it's possible to get it out without harming the iMac, or do I have to go to the Apple Store to get help?

Stupid me 😟

Happy New Year everyone!

Happened to me too. Just before I went on holiday and I was clearing off my SD card for my camera. I left it there until I got back (having to buy a new card at the airport) then did a quick search. Found this clip on youTube featuring the L-shaped cardboard trick which worked perfectly for me on second attempt.

You've got to really blame Apple for the design of the machine when you consider the sheer amount of people who have made this mistake. At least I won't make it again.

Nothing new to add other than moral support and appreciation for the encouragement to persevere...

I made this error yesterday and was reasonably calm and collect whilst I could see it, doing all the sensible things like switching off the power and laying the iMac face down on a cloth, but then came out in a hot sweat when despite my gentle coaxing [using two pins] the wretched thing disappeard inside the CD slot altogether!

I was resigned to the thought of the chap in the call centre saying that this wasn't covered under the AppleCare Plan and so would cost me a fortune to fix, but thought I'd sleep on it and indeed had a restless night thinking up for myself many of the other removal techniques that I now read about here.

My conclusion was that I wouldn't bother and simply try and manage without the CD slot at all (which I seldom use), but reading this posts about the cardboard hook and the unlikelihood of the SD card disappearing too far inside the machine prompted me to have another go - and sure enough it worked!

It's made my day, and needless to say I now know where to come for advice when I next come unstuck. Thanks everyone!

Just to add my similar experience with the paper clip. It worked perfectly on the second try. One hint. Unfold the paper clip fully to get the farthest reach in the DVD slot. Thanks all those who participated in this issue. I use the two slots rather infrequently, but will know the use them by sight, not by intuition or feel!

Same thing happened to me this morning. It's happened to me in

the past and I've noticed my mistake before pushing it all the way

in and it's been pretty easy to get out with a tiny screwdriver.

Today as I was trying to get it out with the screwdriver my cat

jumped on the desk, hit my arm, and caused me to push it in

all the way so I couldn't see it.

Thanks to this forum I was able to get it out pretty easily with

the tilt and paperclip method that's been mentioned here.

From now on I'm keeping a piece of Scotch Tape over the bottom

of the CD slot to keep it from happening again.
