iTunes Error 42408 After 9.03 Upgrade

I am receiving the error 42408 after upgrading to 9.03. Google did not yield any results. The error appears attempting to authorize my Powerbook.

PowerBook G4, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I looked for the files to do the fixes - there's no file in my Preferences named com.apple.iTunes.plist (and yes, I AM looking in the right Preferences folder), and I can't find any iTunesPrefs.plist on my iPod either. After a restart, I tried to authorize and iTunes told me I was already authorized - but when I tried to sync my iPod, iTunes said I wasn't authorized. I deauthorized and reauthorized my macbook pro. Same response, so I don't know what's going on.

If it helps, this is how I finally solved my problem. Since my computer seemed to be authorized, and only some of my songs were generating the "not authorized" problem, I took another look at the login dialog - it was asking for my old, original .mac login, which I had let lapse a long LONG time ago. So I thought, what have I got to lose? and logged into that old dead account (after answering the security question and changing the password). That was all it took. The songs that were not authorized to play suddenly were OK again. Apparently if you bought songs from another account, or changed login name or anything, you have to go back to that to authorize your current setup to play them.

Worth a try, anyway, if the repeating "not authorized" dialog is showing you an old user name.

Hello all,

If you are experiencing the -42408 error syncing with a iPod or iPhone after updating to iTunes 9.0.3, please try these steps:

1. Eject and disconnect the iPod/iPhone from the computer.
2. Open iTunes.
3. Find a protected song from the iTunes Store (Kind = Protected AAC audio file) in your library.
4. Play the song.
5. Connect your iPod/iPhone.

Do you still get the error? If so, try these steps:

1. Carefully follow the steps in the "Remove the SC Info folder" section of this Knowledge Base document: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
2. Re-authorize your computer: Store menu > Authorize Computer...
3. Sync your iPod or iPhone.

Do you still get the error?

Please report your results back here, and if one of my suggestions helped, let me know which one.

Thanks,
Roy
