Anyone who has installed the new update (3.1.3): any issues with it?

Just wondering how "safe" the new update is. Please report your experience with 3.1.3

I finally decided to update today, and I had only one "issue". Five of my smart playlists (I have a couple of dozen) were fine in iTunes, and they even showed the correct content in the listing in iTunes for my Touch. However, on the Touch itself, the playlists were empty — very strange.

After playing around for some time and talking to a very patient tech support person at Apple, I found that deselecting "live updating" on those playlists solves the problem so that the playlists are now correctly populated.

So now the question is what difference does it make whether live updating is selected or not?

To me it makes a difference as most of my playlists are Smart as well.

This is not the first time there have been complaints to Apple to fix their synchronization issues between the iPhone OS and iTunes;

http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10181725#10181725

but it's like they're just waiting for us to forget about it since their only solution has been to stop using smart playlists. I know the iPhoneOS is capable of a proper sync since 2.x could accomplish it just dandily.

The only thing I can think of is that Apple knows about the problem and just doesn't give a crap.

I remembered the note while installing new update that there are something about fixing some bugs on search tool but there aren't anything wrongs with the old one, it just happened on this new one.

i've noticed an issue (they've actually had this way before 3.1.3.. i think 3.0 caused this) where the battery meter is inaccurate. There used to be a "10 percent batter remaining" popup, but that no longer pops up, it tells me 20 percent remaining (multiple times, strangely) then it just randomly powers down on me if i don't get it charged.

Another issue i've noticed (again, 3.0 seems to have caused this) is that i'll have no headphones plugged in, and the external speakers set to "MUTE" and it will still play sounds, like if i'm in a game or something.

C y n ~ the same thing happened to me! This was my first update. I did a little troubleshooting and decided to call tech support. They had me un-install everything, then reinstall itunes, etc. THEN i could do the restore option, which finally worked. i have had to reload ALL music except the ones purchased from itunes, and lost all data in apps. Not sure if there is a way to retrieve this data (contacts, etc) or will i need to re-enter everything? anyone know? also lost all settings, for email, etc.

I should have asked them if there is something to do before the NEXT update to prevent this from happening again? also, i should learn more about back-ups. Although they recommended that i set it up as NEW, and i forget why.

Hi David, I've just tried to install 3.1.3. Everytime I connected to ITunes it said they had a new update. So i agreed to new update and it all went haywire from there. It said there was a problem installing and then put my pod into recovery mode.??? Now I have no pod and no idea how to deal with it. The support pages are just confusing and not able to point me in the right direction because i'm in Australia. The last time I had a problem with the itunes store I was able to email the support network and we resolved the problem by email. Now I'm just confused and frustrated. Cheers I hope you have more luck OZKEll

Okay. So I have resolved this problem with my iPod Touch. I recalled that when I was in New York and had this same experience with an iPod software update at that time, all it took was connecting my iPod to a different machine with the latest iTunes installed and opened. The machine recognizes the iPod as in recovery mode, and does a restore and software update. Once that was completed, I then connected my iPod to the machine with my regular iTunes library, erased the sync from the other machine (you'll see a notice) and synced it with my regular library. Make sure before you sync that you have looked at each tab (i.e. music, applications, movies, photos etc.) to ensure that you that sync is checked.

Not sure yet how all the functions of the iPod work (e.g. volume slide, WiFi etc.) but at least the iPod is no longer a brick.

One change to my previous post. Rather than sync the iPod, it might be better to right click on the device in the sidebar, and restore from backup. Because I didn't do that (tried to find restore on the menu bar and couldn't), I lost all my contacts and notes. 😟 By the time I figure out how to restore, the program had already erased the relevant back up. **** Apple and their problematic software updates.

Anyone who has installed the new update (3.1.3): any issues with it?
