My home page www.apple.com/startpage loading problem

Question

My home page www.apple.com/startpage loading problem

Whenever I start Safari, it opens my home page, www.apple.com/startpage, but it takes a lot until loaded completely.
On the status bar I get a message to open Window/Activity and there i see indeed a problem with opening the page.
Well, any idea how to fix this? It drives me crazy....

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

In the Activity Window it says:
http://c2c738.r.axf8.nethttp://images.apple.com/mr/a.gif?a=C2C738&v=1......A server with the specified hostname could not be found!
This is it...and the page takes a lot to load...
i tried using internet explorer and firefox and i found the same problem.
Definitely it is not a problem with Safari...but what else could be?

Well, I have seen that many folks here have the same problem with loading the home page at www.apple.com/startpage.
There is no problem with the browser, it is doing same thing using Firefox, IE7 or 8, and other browser.
it must be something with the Apple server, since launching the iPad...i have sent many feedbacks to Apple, but not any answer...well, i cannot believe why apple does not fix this problem..
is there anyone having the some issues?

i have resolved the problem myself, by doing this:
1. open system preferences
2. select network, and then advanced
3.select DNS and replace the default DNS number given by the provider (in my case u-verse) with an open DNS server numbers as:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

it works perfectly!

HI,

From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...

From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.

Make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.

Go to ~/Library/Cookies and move the Cookies.plist file to the Trash.

Relaunch Safari.

Well, i did what you said, but it did not fix the problem.
i have also reinstalled Safari....but nothing

Don't reinstall things; it won't solve any problem for you because Safari isn't the problem. Abandon the idea that there's a problem with the application; that is a very, very rare circumstance.

If the Activity Window shows an error, what exactly does it say?

No, it's not a browser problem, it's a problem with a server at Apple, so you should notify them of that error message so they can fix it. Use this form to send them an email with the specific error you see in the Activity Window:

Just wanted to let you know seeing the same issue. Both Apple and Apple Start page show that error in Activity Window. The page still loads, however.

yes, I've seen the same thing, although it didn't affect how the page looked.
Was certainly an apple server issue, when I saw it.

I still wonder why you got http://c2c738.r.axf8.nethttp://images.apple.com/mr/a.gif?a=C2C738&v=1......A - the activity error you mentioned earlier. Sure sounds like something was up at Apple's end.

Hi

you shouldn't have to - agreed. But some isp dns's are slow, inaccurate, or do re-directs if a site isn't found, or even serve up adverts.

I don't overly rate open dns, myself - especially how they will sometimes say ha, not found & link to a page of ads & suggested results, when all I did was leave off the www.

OK I just noticed this today too, had noticed when the iPad came out and thought it was due to server load!
So, my home connection is Clear WiMax and the URL failing is indeed: http://C2C738.r.axf8.nethttp://images.apple.com/mr/a.gif?a=C2C738&v=0 this URL doesn't appear in View Source for the front page, but could be called in associated javascript or CSS files.

The previous solution to setting the DNS server to what your router is using only speeds things up, it still is getting looked for, it just fails faster!

The real question is are the DNS servers between you and Apple compromised in some way?

Testing from work, on an AT&T Worldnet connection, there is no such URL that is looked for. Seems like some routers got hacked... 😟 poo.
