Cannot connect to iTunes Store - Make sure your network connection is activ

I just upgraded to iTunes 9.1 on a MacBook running OS 10.5.8 and can no longer connect to the store. Software Update shows no available updates and I'm at a loss. I tried the method suggested earlier involving changing the parental control options and then changing them back to no avail. Any other suggestions? Not sure what other info to provide, but I'll gladly provide what I can.

Rather than patching dansguardian, this is my work-around:

In my mac proxy settings, I include the malformed url in my "Bypass proxy setting for the following hosts and domains" list: 'ax.init.itunes.apple.com.'
(with the bad period at the end). This forces only that malformed url to bypass squid and dansguardian. I then set my router filter to accept only that url: "ax.init.utunes.apple.com" without the period at the end.

So only the one bad url bypasses dansguardian. All other http requests still get filtered thru dansguardian. iTunes is now happy.

It appears I spoke too soon. The idea was to put a bypass entry in the proxy setting for your client for that particular malformed url, so it would not pass that url to dansguardian in the first place. I was giving the example for my mac proxy settings. For WinXP, you would have to change the proxy settings on each client to include that one bypass. There's an entry box there if you look deep enough for it.

For this to work, you need to have some other mechanism to let that one url straight through to the internet. I have a router-level block for all port 80 requests on my subnet except for the DG box, so that forces all proxy clients to use DG for web access. I need to set my router block to let that one malformed url thru.

It turns out I couldn't get my router to properly handle the malformed url in the bypass list. I'll need to figure out a workaround for that problem at the router level.

I have 9.1.1 and have not had access to Itunes because of error 11222 since the update. My husband has another user account and his works. I've done all the DNS cache clearing, firewall changes, registry cleaners, uninstalls and reinstalls, and cannot change the error. Bypasses are out of my ability range. Any new patches or updates to try? I'm downloading everything through my Itouch wifi. It's very upsetting.

Even though I still consider this Apple's problem and they don't (whoever heard of trailing periods on domain names?), I have found that updating my version of Dan's Guardian content filtering from 2.8 to 2.10.1.1 has a workaround in it, and at least lets me access the iTunes store. I'm still having problems accessign the iPod touch updates, but haven't debugged this yet.

In case you are in the same boat as me, running the IPCop firewall with CopPlus add-on (Dan's Guardian), the latest CopPlus release (3.02) is bult using Dan's Guardian 2.10.1.1, which addresses those pesky trailing periods. I just uninstalled the old version of CopPlus (2.2), and installed the latest version (3.02), and things were happy. The directions at http://home.earthlink.net/~copplus/ were sufficiently clear. Thanks to everyone's help with working around Apple's problem!

OMG!!! You guys are going to freak. Try this ( http://spanningsolutions.com/2010/03/18/itunes-store-not-loading/):

"If you have recently had a problem accessing the iTunes Store with iTunes 9, and you are presented with a message “One Moment Please. Connecting to the iTunes Store. Loading…” or when you try to log in you get a (-50) error message, there is a pretty simple fix. Go to the Edit menu > Preferences > Parental Control Tab > Check Disable iTunes Store > Check Allow access to iTunes U Click OK to save and exit the Preferences. Go to the iTunes Store and let iTunes U load. Then go back to the Edit menu > Preferences > Parental Control Tab > and uncheck Disable iTunes Store. Click OK to save and exit the Preferences. Your iTunes Store should now load."

This worked for me and blew me away.
