Hyperlinking not supported in mobile version of Keynote

Apparently, hyperlinking (turning an object or text into a link to a URL or another slide) isn't supported in the iPad version of Keynote.

Any one have an idea on if it will be added in the future? Or, is there something in Apple's development rules that would prevent Apple from adding this in a future update?

Unfortunately, this is one of the reasons I bought the iPad... for creating interactive displays via Keynote, thinking such a basic function would be included in the mobile version of Keynote.

I too cannot understand Apple's logic in not providing hyper linking between keynote slides.

If it's to prevent app "prototyping" - I think the ability for designers and business analysts to quickly communicate the possibilities of iPad apps to business stakeholders would only help build adoption of the iPad within the Enterprise.

Our company has done several iPad pilots for Sales Enablement and for presentation purposes, Keynote is an acceptable solution but with a couple of significant compromises, the most significant is the inability to link to other local assets such as a PDF files that contains more detailed data to support a slide, and the ability for a presenter to link to another slide. According to our insight gathering, the side-bar navigation isn't ideal. The second, but less important is the ability to "lock" slide content from editing. There are many corporate compliance and brand standards policies that require that presenters are not able to modify content. To date, we've been producing JPEG files of slides that requires several additional steps and has display and quality limitations.

I too purchased keynote for the idea of having interactive presentations only to be kicked in the teeth and to see the box that says all of my hyperlinks have been taken out. I brag to a lot of people about the simplicity of my apple products and how stuff "just works"... please simple linking within the presentation should be manageable. If it isn't just tell us.

This is epically unbelieveable, because fine, it did not work in iWork 09, ..but it is now mid 2011 !! This is not IE 🙂 ..update !!

We were told december, then february, then June, ..now we are not being told July (maybe in Lion, ..maybe just maybe as I heard new iWork utilises Lions versioning abilities), so when Apple, when will you give us keynote for this decade !!

Yes lack of Hyperlinking is a big questionmark.

There is an app that will play back your keynote designed presentation. It's called Keynotopia. You export your Keynote file as a PDF, transfer to the ipad via itunes into the Keynotopia App. Then open the app and it will show you a list of files - select the one you want and it opens full screen with all your links working. Unfortunately because it's playing back a PDF, you cant have quicktime movies - and the transitions are all gone - but replaced with a simple quick dissolve.

This is the first version of the app and will probably have a few more bells & whistles coming.

Well this was a terrible surprise for our multimedia team. Why the heck can we not link to another page?!?!? This is horrible. We have to scramble to find a solution for our client. I thought about hyperlinking a PDF but when you touch the PDF in iBooks you get the menu the pops up. Does that happen in Goodreader as well?

There's a new App called Presentation Link. It will import PDFs and movies (QuickTime, wmvs, etc) and it supports hyperlinking. So create your Keynote on your mac then export as PDF. Import that file into Presentation Link and add your links. The interface is very intuitive. You can then share the presentation by uploading to Dropbox or sending it to iTunes and then share it.it doesn't have any fancy transitions, but you swipe left or right to go forward and back through the images -they push on and off just like an ePub. Next week they are releasing a playback only version so that your distributed files aren't modified. They are also very open to feedback and actively seeking input.

Not Keynote as we'd like it but a very nice App.
