Hyperlinking not supported in mobile version of Keynote

Apparently, hyperlinking (turning an object or text into a link to a URL or another slide) isn't supported in the iPad version of Keynote.

Any one have an idea on if it will be added in the future? Or, is there something in Apple's development rules that would prevent Apple from adding this in a future update?

Unfortunately, this is one of the reasons I bought the iPad... for creating interactive displays via Keynote, thinking such a basic function would be included in the mobile version of Keynote.

For the love of god and any other gods people worship. Even those that worship steve as a god. Will someone please explain to me hyperlinks dont work in keynote "ipad"?? I understand linking to a outside source will take you out of keynote all together. But what about when the hyperlink links to another slide? Please give us this feature back. If its because of the linking out of keynote to web sites thats the problem. if the link is a out of app link then allow a alert to pop up saying this will take you out of the app do you wish to proceed. Im sure a larger percentage of users who will use hyperlinking in keynote "ipad" presentations. Will be using hyperlinking for slide navigation only anyway. I need this. My company needs this. And it seems there are alot f faithful apple users who need this. And it also seems that alot of non apple users would be using it if it had this problem fixed. Your making tons of money so hired some people to log on here and answer some dang questions. Fill us in.

It seems that every conceibable way of creating a prototype that you can run on the iPad has been blocked. And I can only imagine intentionally. It seems almost unbelievable that there is no way for a business to proitotype a product without having to have a full working knowledge of XCode and or HTML5/CSS3/JS.

Apple, there is a reason why business analysts are not programmers - as indeed there is an equally valid reason why the creative are not coders. The brains of each of these works ina very different way and when put together often create something beautiful.

Even the $50 OmniGraffle can't do it! Simply put, ***!?

Having transitioned my whole company over to Macs, iPhones and now iPads, this quite frankly is a kick in the balls and Gates worthy.

Seriously disapointed!

Hi Jonnyg113, did you have any luck in your search or development? I to would like to run a presentation as an interactive slideshow slash presentation, ideally locked so you can't exit the slideshow without a password, as I want it to be in a public area. How easy would it be then to make interactive displays inhouse? cool

I have reached out to Woodwing. It seems as though they are capable of making the type of documents i need, including embedded video, picture slideshow, and other interactive elements. However, the software (or plugin for indesign) costs thousands of dollars. It is literally impossible to justify spending the money to create a few interactive presentations. While Woodwing targets major publishers responsible for SI, wired, and others, they are forgetting about the smaller market of small business users who need this same type of technology.

Before getting off the phone with a person from Woodwing, they also made it seem like they have no intention for introducing this product to the public. This is a shame as it is only a matter of time before adobe of apple whips them out of the market.

My opinion is that Woodwing has created great tools and solutions for the iPad.... but they are holding on too tight to their product. I dont think they realize that sooner or later their competitors will replicate or surpass the solution which they have created.

JUST MAKE KEYNOTE AS CAPABLE AS THE COMPUTER VERSION!!!!! This is embarrassing!

Wait one minute!

What about creating a web page in the resolution of the iPad in iweb or any html 5 builder. This will allow you to embed video, hyperlink, slideshow, (anything else shown in the HTML 5 showcase by apple). Isnt there an app that allows you to download a webpage to your ipad to use it offline?!

In that case, you could use the ipad as a presentation tool!!!!!!

What do you all think?

So, this latest update now does support hyperlinks to external websites, but still doesn't do simple linking to slides within the presentation itself!

To add to the frustration, linking to any external URL will close keynote and open Safari instead. Why not do what most other apps do and spawn a simple browser view within the app itself with an option to open in Safari rather than leaving Keynote?

**** shame, so much potential for interactive presentations on the iPad but just not feasible yet.

I think once 4.2 comes out this won't really be a problem since you will be able to fast app switching. Keynotes should be in the same state as you left it when you return.

I, too, thought this might be a solution, but the issue I ran into was with the addition of video. I placed a video in my PDF, and on my Mac, I could click on it to play (however, I had to allow/trust it before I could get it to play).

On the iPad - in Good Reader, there is no way/option for me to trust the video file, so there just ends up being a blank space where the video should be. The size of the file is the same, so the data is there - just can't get it to play.

So close. I figure that as soon as I figure out some crzy work-around, Apple will just add the cabaility in Keynote for the iPad...
