iPad Video App crashing

I just sync'd the movies in my itunes with the ipad and now whenever I tried to open the movies app, the screen will go black as if trying to load the app and then drop back to the home screen after a couple of seconds. I removed all videos and tried it again with the same result. It appears that the app has become completely broken.

Anyone else have this happen?

I just started having the same problem out of the blue. Both iPod and Video apps would open for one second then close. I read all of these posts, did every little workaround I could find, but nothing.

As I was beginning the Factory Restore process, I got the message that my purchases made on the iPad and not transferred would be lost. So I stopped the Restore process and, on my Mac in iTunes, right clicked my iPad icon and selected 'Transfer Purchases." It transferred my 4 purchases (3 Audio Podcasts and 1 Video Podcast).

I then tried to open the iPod app again, just to see, and it opened fine, without any problem. Then I tried the Video app. Same thing. All my videos opened and played fine.

The simple process of transferring my content purchased from the iTunes Store from the iPad to my Mac's iTunes totally fixed my problem.

It's worth a try for everyone. This is very odd.

Ya this is happening to me I went to rent a movie on iTunes and after it finished downloading I went to video app and it was working for about a minute of the movie then crashed. Now every time I open it it just crashes and I have 24 hours to watch the movie before it expires and not being anywhere near home I just lost 5 bucks thanks Apple.

Same scenario, "Videos" and "iPod" stopped working after a sync. They would open for half a second to an empty screen (black with empty title bar for "Videos", white empty frames for "iPod"), and then return right back to home screen. Deleting movies (down to the last one) through iTunes only triggered each time an "updating library" (or something along those lines) message for a second or two on "Videos", which then would again display an empty black screen and go back to home screen.

Once all the movies were gone (although I don't think it mattered), I did a "Reset All Settings" ("Settins" -> "General" -> "Reset"), and that fixed it. I verified then that "Videos" would simply say that there are no videos, and "iPod" would open correctly and list all the music. I copied all the movies back onto the iPad and "Videos" and "iPod" are still happy.

WiFi passwords seem to be gone, and all the icons are in factory order (native apps on the front home screen, everything else in alphabetical order starting on page 2), but those are minor annoyances compared to a complete restore.

Hello,

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but I'm considering doing a full reset on my iPad due to the video and ipod apps crashing.

I have data in an app called Bento. No way to do an export except through FileMaker's desktop software, which I'm considering purchasing, but it leaves me with a big question.

What happens to data "sandboxed" within apps? Do you lose it all when you reset? Is there a way to restore the data in a functioning app through something like iTunes? (Or is the feature totally useless since it seems to be a great way to lose all your data and doesn't seem to add anything to stability.

(Maybe it does and I'm just irritated, but...)

Thanks,

Pobbit

You may or may not lose dat associated with apps when you reset. It depends on how you reset. Under Settings there is Reset all settings:
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information, such as your contacts and
calendars, and media, such as your songs and videos, aren’t deleted.

The other is Erase all content and settings:
This resets all settings to their original values and erases all your information
and media.
(above from page 125 of iPad User's Guide)

If you do the later and if you have a backup on your computer you can restore your iPad from the backup and have those saved data and apps restored to your iPad.

This started happening to me today: both the iPod and Video apps started crashing every time I tried to start them. I followed all the various suggestions in this thread. The one that finally fixed the issue was the settings reset on the iPad. Minor inconvenience compared to having to restore to factory settings.

Thanks for MarcinS for the details

I solved this very same problem!!!

Search your iPad for the name of a video, click on it, and magically your Videos App will play it!! Mine was previously black screening me, but now it opens normally again!

I think the problem was that the video had difficulty downloading, and still has a glitch at the end, but at least my app now works again!!

HOORAY!!!!

I love my Pad again!!

Thanks to MarcinS!! To fix iPad video player crash w/ black screen, simply go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Settings. Takes about 60 seconds and the video player magically re-activates. No lost data other than WiFi p/w; minor cosmetics: homescreen saver and icon layout. Thanks for the fix!
