iPad Video App crashing

I just sync'd the movies in my itunes with the ipad and now whenever I tried to open the movies app, the screen will go black as if trying to load the app and then drop back to the home screen after a couple of seconds. I removed all videos and tried it again with the same result. It appears that the app has become completely broken.

Anyone else have this happen?

There are a variety of other things you can do which might work just as quickly and save your layouts and settings. Two of the most common are

a. Play any video content in iPod that's not the one that Videos was playing when it froze up. If needed, download and run a short video podcast. Videos will usually come back to life.

b. Exit Videos to Home, then double tap Home for Recents. Quit Videos in the Recents tray and normal play will often then resume.

Several of the available Resets, up to and including the general system (or 'hard') Reset will also work.

I had an issue that my video app got stuck in black screen which had happened before when I would close the Ipad2 with the smart cover while the video was running. However normally after 1-3 reboots the app would be normaly functioning again. However this time even after rebooting many times the app kept the same condition. I also found out that I cannot remove the app like others as it is a preinstalled app. There was no way for me delete the videofiles so I start looking here. Although I had no confidence in this soltion of Chrisswell50, I was desparate enough to give it a try. What a surprise when I transfered my purchases (only apps/music so no video) the video app was working correctly and even was paused on the spot where I left the podcast when I closed the Ipad.

SO THIS WAS THE SOLUTIONS THAT SOLVED MY PROBLEM

Though these posts are quite old, the problem hasn't been really solved by apple yet. My new IPad3 has the same problem. The solution is quite simple however:

  • Connect your iPad to your computer
  • remove the suspicious film from the list
  • synchronise your iPad
  • check your video app for correct working
  • check whether the film plays OK in iTunes
  • add the film again
  • synchronise

If this dousn't the trick, untick the synchronisation check box for films at the first synchronisation.
