iPad not auto-connecting to Wifi!

This is starting to bug me! If I wake my iPad from sleep, it doesn't automatically connect to my first-gen dual-band Time Capsule anymore. I have to keep going into Settings, and then touching my protected network which is showing there, and then it connects. So obviously it remembers the network and WPA2 password, but it's not auto-connecting. It's really annoying!

Anyone else experiencing this? I've reset network settings, and even reset the whole device a couple of times, and it still misbehaves.

*EDIT*

It's doing it on 2 iPads. I suspect there's some wifi glitches with these devices. Shame, really. 😟

Change the channel on your wifi router.

My 2Wire wifi/gateway changed to ch 10 or 11 works fine. The default was channel 1. At that setting iPad continuously prompted for the password even though I was entering the correct password (yes, indeed I was trust me).

Changing channels on the router solved the problem. Uh, something you can't do at a public or business hotspot (so leave iPad at home and take laptop).

Just wanted to let everybody know about my fix.
My wifi kept dropping out and not reconnecting on my 16Gb iPad wifi unless I went to settings and manually selected my network. I have a netgear router that has a wifi speed boost called "auto 108mbps" I changed this to "g only" and it has fixed the issue for me. For some reson I still had the issue when selected "b & g".
Hope this helps someone.

I had a variant of this problem for the first time today; iPad could not find my network waking from sleep, solved in my case by a power off/on.

I vaguely recall a similar problem with one version of the iPhone OS awhile ago; just a pure guess here but there may be some minor wake-from-sleep issue that has to do with the way the network chip handles wake-from-sleep. If this guess is correct, I suspect it will be easily solved down the line with a software update.

I'm not worried at all about it.

Actually I finally discovered a better solution to my iPad's wifi funk: did a full software restart of my modem (2wire 2701HG) and all iPad wifi issues, including wake-from-sleep..... gone. I'd love it if a network DSL firmware guru could explain why to me. 🙂 My guess? Something subtle in the modem's software was getting in the way. An electronic furball, if you will.

APPLE fix per article:
If you are experiencing consistent problems, Apple offers a number of potential fixes that range from the obvious to the truly bizarre. Among the possible solutions listed are updating your router’s firmware, using WPA or WPA2 instead of WEP encryption, renewing the iPad’s IP address, toggling WiFi off and on, or increasing your screen brightness.

HERE is the real fix for 3800HGV-B 2 Wire Routers, till the software is updated:
First of all, I have a 3800HGV-B 2 Wire Router that waits for the incoming network connection from a mobile device then it decides DHCP or static IP based upon what type of IP scheme it is receiving from the unit.

Setup all wireless devices with static IP'S and let the router figure things out.
DETAILS:

SETTING UP THE WIRELESS NETWORK FOR IPAD AND IPHONES: Remove the DCHP network on your iphone & ipad. The router will now re-discover your Network. Now click the arrow to the right of your network name then select the static tab and put in your static ip per your range, plus the basic additional router info. STOP.. now turn off units.

SETTING UP THE 2WIRE ROUTER (UVERSE):
(with wireless devices OFF)
Log into your router (2Wire) and navigate through these tabs... SETTINGS>LAN>STATUS> now SELECT CLEAR LIST...
(now turn on devices one by one, go back and select your network now and put in your password then surf a page to ping your router)
Now HIT THE 'HIDE INACTIVE DEVICES' BUTTON on the router... the device IP should show up on this list. Now goto 'IP ADDRESS ALLOCATION' on the sub-tab and verify that your device was discovered with the IP you set it up and that it was discovered by the router as 'Static IP - No DHCP' repeat for each device as necessary.

The problem I have found is that the iphone not the Ipad is putting out an DHCP IP Scheme and static IP... confusing the **** out of the router... UG. Trust me, put in a static ip in your iphone... and it shows up on the dhcp tab... go figure. Fix please apple !!

Happy surfing all the time every time !!! Cheers !!!

I am having the same problem as well - issue started occurring less than 2 days after I purchased the iPad. I own a MacBook and a MacPro that have no issue with auto connecting to my home wifi network. The iPad however can't seem to reliably auto connect upon waking from sleep.

I tried someone's suggestion about raising the screen brightness from the lowest setting, and that seems to have fixed the problem. This is a very strange bug given that display brightness functionality should not interfere with network connectivity.

I just saw that Apple released an update to the OS (3.2.1) which claims to fix wifi connectivity issues. Let's hope this update fixes the issue.

I feel like a just solved the mystery of a lifetime. I wanted to let everyone know that I fixed this exact same issue. I have a dual band router Netgear N600 and all the fixes here and online did not work. I had my channel set to 11 and changed it to auto and have been connected ever since. Please let me if this worked for you.

That did not work for me. Nor did renewing the lease, changing encryption types, restarting the ipad or any of the other offered solutions.

However, given the problems people seem to have, I will say what did work. I tapped "Other..." under Choose a Network, and added the network name and password as though it were not yet found. Re-adding the (already found) network like this seems to have solved the issue (for me!)
