Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

How do you put date in top time bar?

Hi, I would love to see the date displayed along with the time that's on the top of my iPad . Anyone know how to do this?
I can't find anyplace in the setting. Seems like a dumb oversight.

That's a possibility. It is not a life and death functionality so I suspect not enough users have submitted feedback to Apple that this is a feature that would make the iPhone more user friendly for them.

Let me put it this way. Take one hundred people. Show them two iDevices. One with just the time. One with the day, date, and time...as shown below.

3:57 PM

Mon Sept 10 3:57 PM

I'm betting that 90 would chose the second option. And after a period of time the other 10 would realize the inconvenience of not having easy access to the day and date and change.

How do I know this.

I don't. But, I am a betting man. And this seems like a pretty good bet to me.

Yes, if you propose a test as you describe, that would likely be the out come. And would totally irrelevant.

Ask how many folks have even noticed or care that the bare only includes the time, and you would get a very different answer.

You are on your own. It would appear that the vast majority of iPad users don't care, and in fact would prefer to see effort go into functionality that is really useful.

deggie, Your point is a non-sequitur. The success of the iPad has nothing to do with something so totally minor as how time is displayed at the top of the screen.

Why did I comment about something so totally minor? If you noticed, the OP of this discussion asked "How do you put the date in top time bar" because they wanted that functionality. If you also noticed, several other posters stated that they too would like this functionality. I also would like this functionality. So, I expressed the point of view that I was surprised that something so easy to do had not been done by Apple. It hurts no one to have this additional information on the top of the screen, and clearly there are folks who want this functionality.

Did you even read this discussion before commenting?

No, actually your point is a non-sequitur. If you go to Best Buy you can see an Android next to an iPad. Yet even there the iPad outsells the Androids by a wide margin.

I seriously doubt that most people, unless it was pointed out to them, notice the difference with the date. And I've seen very few threads here requesting the date on iOS, even on the iPhone which preceded the iPad.

I wouldn't even put the request in the top 50.

But who knows maybe iOS 6 will have it. Or not. If it doesn't then keep sending in those feedbacks to Apple.

Addendum: On the lock screen it does show the date just below the time. On my home screen as previously stated one could put the calendar on the dock. Problem solved.

James Ward4,

Why the snarky comment? And why is the experiment irrelevent? Apple is ALL about details. It is often the little things that Apple labors over that separate it from the competition. Having the date and day in addition to the time is an example of the little details that maybe people don't care about individually, but put together help to define this very successful company.

Apple often does not solicite the opinion of its customers in making design choices. They are famous for anticipating what customers WOULD want before they even know they want it. So, perhaps users of these iDevices don't realize that having the Day and Date would be helpful, but it would be typical of Apple to include such a feature because they know it would make the product better. My thought experiment was meant to point this out.

I am surprised Apple has not added this functionality. Contrary to your opinion, as a developer I can not imagine that adding this functionality would require anything but a minimal of resources on Apple's part. There would be PLENTY left over to address the "really useful" features.

I ask you too. Did you read the entire discussion? Did you not notice that this entire thread was about users requesting the Day, Date, Time functionality?

Sheesh. Don't bother responding. Your trolling is a waste of time.

Or perhaps, as I stated, most users don't really give a ****. You would like think they do to bolster your rather pedestrian argument, but reality doesn't support it. And yes, your test is a straw man argument. I can take any two choices, and by providing a slanted juxtaposition, get the results I want. Doesn't mean any body REALLY cares.

And as an IT professional myself, I know that, yes, even the smallest of takes resources always from other efforts. It is why features in any development effort are prioritized.

This would contribute vey little to making the product "even better"?

Hi deggie,

deggie said: "Addendum: ... one could put the calendar on the dock. Problem solved."

That is all the posters in this discussion wanted to hear...a viable solution.

You should be thanked for this and I am very happy to do that.

Thanks a ton for the clever tip. I have put my calendar on the dock and all is now super delicious. :-)

Sorry - but resurrecting this thread is pointless. It does nothing to change the reality that the date cannot be placed in the bar.
