Actually there are a couple of apps that can reduce the brightness lower than the mac's lowest settings.. a couple of free apps are "shades" and "dimmer". Just google them and download. ENJOY!
I agree. Is there an app that will make the screen a "low level illumination" that is redish in color. I own a sail boat and have sailed many miles throught the Atlantic and the Carribbean. Many Islands do not have lighted navigational aids. I have an app form NAVIONICS for charts whic are easy to read. However, at night the cockpit is so lite up that it compromises my night vision. I know many of you have seen the Hunt For Red October with Sean Connery and there was always redish hue in the background. This is considered a "low level illumination" that will not interfere with your night vision. A little long winded, I know! Is there a solution??
Double push the home button. Panel will appear at the bottom-slide the panel to the right-brightness and volume controlls will be there.
Use this shady app, works like a charm http://instinctivecode.com/shady/
David,
If you don't understand our brightness issues, maybe you want to try that out in a totally dark room.
You might also consider shining the light of your phone through the apple on the back of your MacBook screen when this is dimmed down to zero.
That is the birhgtness level we need.
I just found the app "Night web browser by Alex". It's a web web browser with a dim function. I often use it when I'm browsing the web at night. :)
nITe OWL is the answer to everyones problems with life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One thing you can try is inverting the colors on your screen with control+option+command+8
Obviously it depends on with which colors your programs are, but if you are using mostly light colored programs, they will be inverted to darker colors
I bought a great iPad screen dimmer from Dimmy.net. It's reusable and dims the screen below the minimum brightness. I use it when I read the iPad in bed every night so I don't disturb my wife.
