iTunes Could Not Connect To The iTunes Store

When attempting to do anything in iTunes which uses the iTunes store I receive the following message: "iTunes Could Not Connect To The iTunes Store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."

This problem has only begun to occur since updating iTunes to version 9.1. I a 64-bit version of Windows 7 and iTunes has worked perfectly until this latest update. I checked with my coworkers and they are all having the same problem. Additionally, I performed a clean uninstall and reinstall of iTunes per the Apple support websites instructions for Windows 7. As I browse around this forum there seems to be many recently active threads concerning problems with the iTunes store. All this leads me to believe that the problem is on Apple's end, not mine.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks!

Like many others, when I updated to itunes 9.1, I could no longer connect to the itunes store. I've tried:
- Running itunes diagnostics (internet connection is OK)
- Allowing pop up windows in Firefox (my default browser) and Explorer
- Changing LAN settings in Explorer
- Changing parental controls in itunes
- Ensuring itunes is an exception in my windows firewall

I've easily spent an hour on this, and am really irritated that Apple is making me waste my time on a problem that's obviously a software problem on its end.

I'm running Win 7 64-bit and am having the same issue. iTunes worked great until the new update. I have tried every trick and "fix" out there. None of them work. What's interesting is that I went into the Apple store and I was able to connect to the iTunes store and can also connect at home. I told everyone around me at work to not update to 9.1 and they can still connect at work. There is something with 9.1 that makes the firewall at work stop it. I have spent countless hours trying to figure it out but nothing works. I have called tech support and they say they are inundated with phone calls but no one knows how to fix it. Good job Apple!!

I have tried changing the preferences and parental controls like everyone said and the problem is still there, and i have even uninstalled and reinstalled it more than once and that did not help either.
When i try to connect to the store it still comes up with the message: iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store Make sure your network connection is active and try again.
I am running windows 7 professional 64-bit and i have never had problems with it before i updated iTunes
please help me

3 weeks ago i updated to 9.0 and was surffing itunes just fine then I noticed that the Itunes Store stopped working in the same session. I thought it was just site congestion but i have not been able to connect since. I can logon to my account from my Iphone but not PC. updated to 9.1 but no help. what is interesting is that i can connect to the itunes store from two different Windows Logon accounts on the same computer (one User one Admin) and view the itunes store content. so it seems profile related for me.

It seems the there are some issues with the way Itunes Application is handling ItunesU and parental control with non-Admin privlages. Itunes could not set audio player defaults when changing Parental control options. I played around with this untill i added the problem windows account to the local administrators security group and then opened Itunes preferances and turned ItunesU-on, Parental Controlls>disable-Itunes store, allowed ItunesU.
Closed Itunes reopend and removed the settings i just set. then removed the account from the local admins group. restarted Itunes. Seems ok now.

1. Open iTunes
2. Click on Edit/Preferences
3. Under Parental Controls, DISABLE access to the iTunes Store
4. Then check the box to ALLOW access to iTunes U
5. Try to log in to the store again through iTunes - it will send you
direct to the iTunes U store
6. Repeat step 2
7. Under Parental Controls nor ENABLE access to the iTunes Store.

Voila! All fixed. Obviously an error in the latest release of iTunes, but getting Apple to fix it seems an impossibility!
This also is worked for us. Many thanks!
