iTunes Could Not Connect To The iTunes Store

When attempting to do anything in iTunes which uses the iTunes store I receive the following message: "iTunes Could Not Connect To The iTunes Store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."

This problem has only begun to occur since updating iTunes to version 9.1. I a 64-bit version of Windows 7 and iTunes has worked perfectly until this latest update. I checked with my coworkers and they are all having the same problem. Additionally, I performed a clean uninstall and reinstall of iTunes per the Apple support websites instructions for Windows 7. As I browse around this forum there seems to be many recently active threads concerning problems with the iTunes store. All this leads me to believe that the problem is on Apple's end, not mine.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks!

Well, after spending 3 hrs with tech support we ended up uninstalling iTunes 9.1, Quicktime, Bonjour, and the 2-3 Apple support programs and then installed iTunes 9.0 per my suggestion and it solved one of my issues. I can now sync my iPhone with my Outlook calendar, but still have the issue around the iTunes store unable to launch. My senior tech support gal thinks it's possibly some issue with ports cuz mine is on a work computer and I don't have permissions to add a new port, so she sent me this article to try.

I'm also seeing this issue, but I have one more bit of info to throw into the mix: I've got 3 different macs at my house: 2 laptops and one mac mini. The version of iTunes on the mini is 9.0, both laptops now have 9.1. Neither laptop can connect to the iTunes store, but the mini can with no problem. All use the same network connection to the internet.

More puzzling is that if I take my laptop to my office (which uses a different network connection) then it can connect to the iTunes store with no problem.

This leads me to believe that the networking stack has changed in iTunes 9.1, and it has done so in such a way that does not work well with many common internet connections.

At home I have DSL, at work we have a cable connection.

Has anyone found any definitive answer about this issue for the mac? None of the above mentioned fixes have any effect. Is there something I should change on my home network?

IS ANYONE ELSE WITH THIS PROBLEM A PANDORA USER?!?!!?

Yes.. i have same problem here. iTunes 9.1 will NOT connect to store and gives following message while trying to connect (but never connects):"If iTunes doesn't open, click the iTunes application icon in your Dock or Windows Task Bar." When i try to click authorize computer or sign in I also get that

unknown error (-50)... under that it says there was an error in the itunes store, please try again later.

IS ANYONE ELSE WHO IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM A PANDORA USER???? I don't really know when the itunes store problem started after i updated to 9.1 b/c i don't think i ever went straight to itunes store..... The first time i noticed the problem was when i was listening to pandora and tried 'buy song thru itunes' on the pandora page....

The itunes error message appears to be like an outside source (like pandora) trying to open itune store....

Yeah, I've got a PC and it doesn't work for me either. I spent 3 hours with tech support and not only could I not access iTunes (and still can't), but I couldn't sync my calendar with Outlook after the 9.1 upgrade. So after those 3 hours, I suggested we uninstall it all and reinstall 9.0 instead.

I still get the same error message for iTunes, but I can sync my calendar at least.

When I try logging into iTunes U, it gives me a similar network error message, but this one actually has a number on it:

"iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. An unknown error occurred (11556).
Make sure your network connection is active and try again."

When I attempt to access itunes store I receive the message "we could not complete your itunes store request. the network connection could not be established. there was an error in the itunes store. please try again later."
I repeatedly get this message, but only on my laptop. Both my laptop and home computer has v. 9.0 and when I try on my home computer I get into the store not a problem. I've tried everything on my laptop from disableling my antivirus to following all the notes in the itunes help and troubleshooting pages. Has anyone else encounted this problem and if so can anyone help. I'm getting really fustrated now.
