HELP! "Problem with the driver for Intel 5 Series/3400 series chipset...."

I am using a new i7 MacBook Pro with boot camp running Windows 7 Professional 64bit with 8mb RAM.

When trying to install my new HP8500 Wireless printer I get this error message:
"Problem with the driver for Intel 5 Series/3400 series chipset family USB Universal Host controller - 3B36. Reinstalling the diver might fix this problem"

I have installed the boot camp 3.1 drivers twice and no help. I need help with details as I am no expert!

MacBook Pro i7 15", Windows 7

Same Problem. MacBook Pro 17" running Bootcamp. Windows 7 Pro. I had initially run the laptop for months with no problems. I had to resize the partition and reinstall Win7. Since then, after the reinstall, I have had the same issue exactly with the USB. Not using a printer, just a hub.

Message: Intel 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family USB Universal Host Controller - 3B36 (and same message for 3B3B) has a driver problem.

Will try the above mentioned workaround and report back.

Hi mojowozi-man -- the "device cannot start" message means that the ghost 3B36 and 3B3B Universal Host Controller devices are NOT disabled, just not "working". You need to disable them (the so-called hardware) rather than remove/reinstall the device driver (the software). Right-click on them in the device manager tree (under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers node, not System Devices) and choose "disable," not uninstall. Make sure you turn on "show hidden devices" so they show up. The General Tab should say for those two devices:

This device is disabled. (Code 22)

Click Enable Device to enable this device.

Does this help?

Yes, m@rkoto -- thanks for your reply. Good to hear you are once again running VMware. I read about their drivers fix, but I didn't want to pay to upgrade my VMware Workstation 6.5, so I went to the trouble of figuring out a way to get my version to work around the Boot Camp bug. Maybe it will be useful for a while longer, if someone else has software that gets hung up because of the ghost devices. In any case, I think Apple will be fixing the bug pretty soon.

Hello! Another YES vote for removing the USBready.exe file! THANKS JONAH!
I have an iMac running bootcamp with Windows 7 installing an HP printer (HP Photosmart D110 printer), and had the same observations that others had on this board. Another observation I had is that I looked in the Device Manager and saw that I had Intel USB controller 3B34 and 3B3C, however the USB errors were for 3B36 and 3B3B.

The "fix" of copying the installation CD to a folder (HP on the desktop) and physically removing the USBready.exe and the installation worked perfectly.

In my case, since this is a few years after the original post, the USBready.exe file was from Aug 2007, but the same issue...updated, but not enough for this platform. HP/Apple -- GET WITH THE PROGRAM!

The way around this (to install an HP printer) for Windows 7 Home Premium running on an iMac running Bootcamp is to go to Device Manager (click the windows button in the bottom left corner of the screen and type in device manager in the search box and select from list),

click on View,

click on Show Hidden Devices,

right click on the “Intel (R) 5 Series / 3400 Series ChipsetFamily USB Universal Host Controller” that have the yellow exclamation point, and click Disable.

I had two. After I disabled them, I was able to installthe printer. All 4 of my USB ports stillwork.

Having the same problem on my MacBook Pro i7. I'm not using any printer connectet to the USB port, but in Windows I have a flight (RC) simulator that does NOT sense the transmitter; it just happened after I had to resize the partition (larger) for my Wndows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

I have tried ALL the tricks suggested in this forim but NONE worked.

I Have

1) Disabled the devices

2) Disabled/Reabled the devices

3) Reinstalled Windows 7 in a new partition

4) Reinstalled the simulator program from scratch with the devices disabled, reabled after installed etc.

Is there anyone that have a NEW way to cerrect this problem?
