What is this "Slow Script" window message?

Hello.

These two days I've encountered this *window pop-up message* when I visited a few frequent sites, *including Apple.com*:

*Slow Script*

*Safari is no longer responding because of a script on the webpage "Apple" ( http://www.apple.com/). Do you want to stop running the script, or let it continue?*

*(Buttons- Stop & Continue)*

If I hit "Stop", the site stops loading and the main page appears OK

If I hit "Continue" the site re-loads and the window message pops up again.

This is just a guess, but a script might wait for an object, such as a Flash plugin, to instantiate, which could fail for any number of reasons, and if the script isn't designed with any kind of a timeout limit, or a limit that is greater than Safari's long-running script limit of five seconds, Safari displays the dialog.

Five seconds, incidentally, is a long time, considering how fast Safari's JavaScript engine is.

Hi all.

Again, very funnily and ironically, the problematic site was Apple.com only, among many of the sites I frequent, including CNet, CNN, Facebook, Twitter, MacSurfer, etc.

Could it be the new HTML5 they were trying to put on the main page??

It's hard to say since I've never seen this dialog at Apple.com. Sometimes it happens when a script opens an alert or a print dialog and you take too long to respond. Was another dialog open at the time?

Hi David,

Nope. Only this 'Slow Script' message window pops open when I try to load Apple.com... Like I said earlier, many other sites I normally frequent and read every night are OK, sites like CNet News.com, MacSurfer, iLounge, CNN, SciFi Wire etc.
