iPad WiFi in UK.

Much of the discussion here has centered on U.S. users wifi problems. But some iPads must by now have reached these UK shores - so any UK experiences anyone ?

Good, bad, or indifferent ?

Everything is all good mate. Had mine 2 weeks, I'm on Sky's top package which is pretty slow anyway, will be transferring to virgin's 50meg in July. I use a Time Capsule as a router, so connection is good, and I've got a big house and can take all around it and the connection stays strong.

Hope this helps.

I'm having issues with my iPad disconnecting from my home wifi and not being able to re-join.

Got 2 macs, iPhone and no issues with those devices.

It's very frustrating! Any ideas??

Without any details of what sort of router you have and how you have it set up it's impossible to say much. You should check to see if your router has the latest firmware and you could try resetting the router.

Good news and bad news. The good news is that my iPad DHCP issues were caused by the BT HH as suspected. After lots of fruitless messing about, I bit the bullet and reset the HH via the reset option on the menu (not via the buttons on the the side). After re-entering all of the settings, my DHCP is working fine and the iPad connects without issue. The bad news is that I've no real explanation as to why this problem occurred. Incidentally, this also appears to have fixed my issues with addresses not being released correctly via DHCP. I did notice a number of error codes in the HH event log which BT may be able to explain, although in my experience, the majority of BT support people don't know a great deal about networking and tend to follow some sort of "idiot board" in their attempt to resolve issues. While this approach probably works for a high percentage of calls, it's a waste of time in more complex situations. I suspect the issue is caused by some sort of corruption in the DHCP table and my recommendation would be to reset to factory settings, assuming you are proficient enough to get the router back up and running.

I haven't experienced any wi-fi issues (and I don't mean to hijack the thread), however, I decided to set up each device that connects to my network, with a static IP address, so that each device connects on a non randomly assigned IP address whenever they connect to the router, helps with DHCP renewal issues.

Anyway, my iPad was connected, I was able to surf the web etc without issue, however, when it came to allocating a static IP address, the router told me I had entered an invalid MAC address ( I hadn't entered the MAC address, the router had placed the iPad's MAC address automatically into the relevant place.

The iPad MAC address begins with E8: , all the other devices (MAC addresses) I assigned static IP addresses to began with numbers, the majority 00, my iPhone with 90, I was able to assign IP addresses without issue, except to the iPad.

I contacted Netgear, my router manufacturer, who, after over an hour on the telephone, finally acknowledged they were unfamiliar with MAC addresses beginning with a letter. They went on to say they would create a case number and get their next level tech support guys to work on a firmware update which should hopefully resolve the MAC address not being accepted when assigning a static IP address.

As I said earlier, I have not been experiencing wi-fi issues, my iPad has connected to any network I have tried to connect to and continues to connect to my regular network without fail.

I just thought it was interesting that the router was having a problem assigning a static IP address, because as far as the router was concerned, the iPad's MAC address is invalid.

Could the same MAC address thing be causing the Wi-Fi issues people are experiencing?

Just a thought.

I have now logged my WiFi problem with Apple by ringing 0844 209 0611 in the UK.
The Apple guy said he had not come across this WiFi problem, so I would encourage all contributors to this and other threads who have connection problems to log them with Apple and *get an incident number*.

I stressed to the support guy that if my iPhone works in the wild at WiFi hotspots, then my iPad should work too – and without having to fiddle with various settings.

My iPad drops it's connection every few minutes, normally it automatically reconnects after a few seconds (so it's not always that obvious it's doing it) but other times it fails. Also the Wifi bar strength tends to go down to one bar when the trouble starts. This is connecting to a Netgear DG834G with the latest firmware. I also have exactly the same problem with an Apple Airport Express, which is normally switched off, so there's no interference.
I never have any connection issues like these with my iPhone, iPod Touch and non-apple laptops when connecting to my Wifi network.
I'll be logging a call with Apple ASAP.

I have the 64gb wifi only iPad. It connects no problem at all to my home network but it's a nightmare trying to connect to BT Openzone at Starbucks or to other free public networks, eg The Cloud at Pret a Manger. I get all the bars showing and am taken to the sign-on page but then clicking on the Login button does nothing. It just sits there forever. I've tried renewing the lease for the IP address and all the other things Apple recommends but still have no joy. The odd thing is that on one occasion, after sitting there for 15 minutes, it connected. But I know that if I walk back in to the same store now and turn on the iPad I'll be back to square one.

Incidentally, there is no problem with the networks at these places - I'm able to connect my iPhone and MBP.

I've seen lots on the web about the wifi problem - is it something that affects individual units or is it a generic issue? In other words, am I best off just asking for a replacement?
