iPad Mail Crashing

I have the same problem on iPad and iPhone. When i open mail and connect to POP account, it crashes. I can see mail for a few seconds - there are emails in there from one month ago. Even after i've cleared all emails via webmail, reset my devices, deleted and re added the accounts. Both devices seem to have remembered the old emails - any idea how I can solve this?!

I just started having the same problem on my iPad and iPhone. It's made both devices useless for email, though the iPhone takes a bit longer to crash - 20 or so seconds vs. the iPad crashing instantly. Any solutions?

iPad email Crashing. Can't erase messages..Hmmmm

Using your Safari, log onto webmail.xxxxxx. X being your provider

Like roadrunner.com or whatever it may be.

Once into your email account delete all your messages. Yes all..

Log out and Exit Safari.

Delete your email account on your IPad.

Then Start a new mail account like you had before the delete.

That should do it. Worked fine for me.

It is now 2015 and I had this problem twice this month with my Ipad 2, which is several years old. Both times it happened when I was trying to forward emails with large attachments, at which point my iPad froze in a scrolling mode, and when the iPad was shut down and reopened the mail was completely empty. One email was only a short article with a large picture; the other was a tax return. After the first episode, having not yet read these posts, I was able to restore the mail only after I restored the iPad to factory settings and then downloaded a backup. When it happened a second time, I read these posts and followed the suggestions above, which included searching for and deleting any notifications that an email was undeliverable as well as the emails themselves that were "undeliverable", and deleting the first one of the original emails that could not be forwarded (but not the second one, since I didn't remember which email I had been trying to forward when it happened until I reset the iPad, and found it on my mail screen, still waiting to be sent), and resetting the iPad.

I guess this must be a problem with the iPad forwarding emails with large attachments. It seems it happens with different mail servers as I have AOL and someone else mentioned gmail. My question is, is this still a problem, years later, with others with newer iPads and why do you suppose Apple hasn't issued an update to fix it?
